Job Title: Cath Lab Tech Profession: Radiology / Cardiology Specialty: Cath Lab Tech Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 10 hours Experience: 1.5 to 2 years required License: RT license required for operating fluoroscopy machines Certifications: ACLS, BCLS required; ARRT CI preferred Must-Have: - Graduate of an approved School of Radiologic Technology - Registered by the A.R.R.T., R.T.(R) required - BLS and ACLS certification must be obtained within probationary period - WV Medical Imaging License required Description: The Cath Lab Technologist performs endovascular procedures on patients. These procedures lead to the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac and peripheral vascular disease. The technologist will monitor patients' hemodynamic status and document during procedures. Scrubbing during endovascular procedures to assist the physician is part of the role. The Cath Lab Technologist maintains job and license requirements. Participation in mandatory in-services and staff meetings is expected. Self-education and timely completion of required competency assessments are essential. Responsibilities also include performing ACC requirements and other duties as assigned. Equipment and devices used include Siemens and PACS. Required skills include cardiac cath lab procedures, hemodynamic monitoring, and stent placement. Familiarity with isolation precautions and the use of a rapid response team is necessary. Technical skills also involve setup of equipment and maintenance of sterile fields. Medium work is expected with frequent lifting of objects weighing up to 25 lbs. Candidates must be prepared for call duty, including 1 weekday and 1 weekend every 4-6 weeks. Experience in diagnostic and interventional cardiology is required. Candidates should understand procedures related to IABP placement, Impella insertion, and temporary pacemaker placement. Knowledge of patient ratios, charting systems, and community hospital experience is preferred.
