Job Title: Patient Care Technician Profession: PCT Specialty: Psychiatric Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Evening Hours per Shift: 8 hours Experience: 1 year in psychiatric care required License: Required Certifications: BLS (AHA) Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT) via AAH De-escalation Training Must-Have: 1 year of experience in psychiatric care Description: Department: Psychiatric (Adult) Number of beds: 27 Common diagnoses include: - 18+ adults with schizophrenia - bipolar disorder - schizoaffective disorder - substance abuse - intellectually challenged population This unit does not accept detox or rehab patients. Patients are admitted from the emergency room and must be medically stable. Physically restraint usage on this unit includes: - 4 points with leather restraints. - Staff will receive training during orientation on these protocols. Patient Care Technician Responsibilities include: - Conducting safety checks - Performing room checks - Taking vital signs - Weighing patients on Saturdays - Assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs) - Directly observing patient care - Conducting rounding every 15 minutes - Performing phlebotomy (prior experience is required) - Checking blood glucose levels - Providing 1:1 supervision as needed - Assisting nursing staff as required There is no telemetry on this unit, and Registered Nurses will read strips. Shifts: Day shift: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM Evening shift: 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM Night shift: 11:00 PM - 7:30 AM Weekend requirements are every other weekend, and holiday requirements are 2-3 shifts per year. Travelers are the first to float to any adult and children psychiatric units, including crisis areas. Scrub color is eggplant. Cancellation policy allows for limited shift cancellations without penalty.
