Job Title: Behavioral Health Technician Profession: Behavioral Health Specialty: Pediatric Behavioral Health Duration: 8 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours (19:00 - 07:30) Experience: Minimum of 1 year in specialty experience required License: Pending state license not accepted Certifications: BLS, MANDT/CPI required Must-Have: First-timers accepted Experience with acute inpatient child and adolescent psychiatric units caring for patients ages 3-18 Description: Behavioral Health Technicians will work in a pediatric psychiatric facility. The average daily census in the unit is 30 patients. The staff-to-patient ratio is 1:4 during the day and on weekends, and 1:6 at night. Behavioral Health Technicians must have skills in managing a variety of psychiatric disorders. These include but are not limited to anxiety disorders, bipolar disorders, eating disorders, and psychotic disorders. Experience in crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques is essential. Staff will provide direct patient care and work alongside clinical teams. Behavioral Health Technicians will be responsible for ensuring patient safety through room checks and adherence to protocols. Clinical duties will include obtaining vital signs and managing patient behavior effectively. Weekend rotation is required as part of the job responsibilities. Candidates must be willing to float within the scope of the facility’s needs as needed. Special equipment used in the unit may require prior experience. Candidates are required to undergo a multi-step state background check, which takes a minimum of three weeks to clear. Timeliness in completing necessary documentation is crucial to avoid delays in the start of employment. BLS and First Aid training will be provided if needed. Candidates should expect to complete training modules as part of onboarding. A successful candidate will be adaptable, with excellent communication skills, and a commitment to patient care.
