Job Title: Patient Care Technician Profession: PCT Specialty: Adolescent Psychiatry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 8 hours Experience: 1 year of experience in psychiatric care and some pediatric clinical experience required License: Required Certifications: BLS, PCT Certification Must-Have: - BLS Certification - PCT Certification - Kind and considerate demeanor when working with patients Description: This role involves direct observation and care of patients in a psychiatric unit. The unit is divided into two sides catering to children and adolescents, aged 5 to 17 years. Common diagnoses include ADHD, depression, mood disorders, autism, and bipolar disorder. The average length of stay for patients is approximately three weeks, although some may stay longer. Physical restraints are seldom used, and there is a strong emphasis on connecting and communicating with patients. Patient Care Technicians will round every 15 minutes and engage in activities with the patients. Compassionate patient interaction is essential, with a focus on non-physical touch. Each unit has a staffing requirement of a minimum nurse-to-patient ratio, ensuring patient safety and attention. Weekend and holiday work is mandatory; staff are expected to work every other weekend and at least one major holiday during the season. All staff are subject to floating to other psychiatric areas as necessary, although attempts will be made to keep staff within the assigned unit. Excessive call-ins could lead to termination, emphasizing the importance of reliability.
