Emergency Department Registered Nurse - Part Time

Assignment Duration

This is a 22-26 week contract position, running through January.

Schedule

Part Time with Day/Night rotations (2 shifts of 12 hours each) plus 2 on-call shifts in 4 weeks.

Job Description

The Emergency Department Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high-quality compassionate care to patients and families. The ED RN assesses patient needs, identifies urgent or emergent care priorities, and collaboratively provides direct care. This role involves skill in various invasive and non-invasive procedures, treatments, and therapeutic interventions appropriate to manage both life-threatening and routine emergency situations.

Responsibilities

• Connect with patients and families during triage to establish rapport and address comfort needs.
• Conduct primary assessments and document any major deviations from normal for patients of all age groups.
• Assess the psychosocial needs of patients and families, reporting any suspicions of domestic violence or abuse.
• Encourage cooperation among team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
• Prepare patients and families for diagnostic procedures and treatments; provide education on post-emergency care.
• Maintain communication with patients regarding their care process and anticipated needs throughout their ED visit.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• BLS, ACLS, PALS, Stroke Certification (Must be AHA or RQI).
• Two years of acute hospital experience as a Registered Nurse, with at least one year in an Emergency Department.
