The Trauma Registrar is responsible for data collection, abstraction and the analysis of trauma registry data. This position evaluates and interprets patient data in reference to ICD-10 and AIS coding classification. Complies with NTDS standards in analyzing data for diagnoses.

Responsibilities:

A day in the life of a Trauma Registrar at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

 

  • Principal job functions include trauma registry data collection, data entry, injury coding and scoring, and complication identification. Ensures charts are completed and closed within 60 days of patient discharge. 
  • Validates data through the completion of concurrent chart review to confirm quality standards are met.
  • Works with the Trauma Program leadership by collecting and tracking data points to assist with Performance Improvement initiatives.
  • Assists in preparing data for site visits, TQIP and NJ State submissions.
  • Acquires and maintains competencies, certifications, and continuing education in order to meet any facility accreditation or individual licensing requirements or unit based needs. These include, but may not be limited to, a trauma registry course certificate, a trauma-specific ICD-10 course certificate, and an AAAM AIS course certificate.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications:

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
  • Experience using an Electronic Health Record (EHR), such as EPIC.
  • Experience working with a registry.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare or other related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years experience as a Trauma Registrar for a Level I or Level II Trauma Center.

Licenses and Certifications Preferred:

  • Certified Specialist in Trauma Registry (CSTR) Certification.
