Posting is for one Transportation Worker IV that will serve as inspector of purchase order contracts in Division 8 for the Division Roadside Environmental Unit. Position may serve as lead worker of Roadside Environmental crews and will also inspect vegetative encroachments, permits, and perform inspection and assessments of NCDOT assets as directed. Position will primarily work in Moore & Lee County but is subject to work within all eight counties of the Division.








Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies




Management prefers applicants with the following:



+ Experience in correctly applying herbicides and pesticides in accordance with the label, as well as proper storage and disposal techniques





+ Knowledge of Advanced Work Zone Safety & NCDOT Workplace Safety policy and practices


+ Experience leading subordinates and directing the daily activities of a work crew


+ Experience communicating work plans with supervisors and subordinates


+ Experience obtaining information by observing, receiving, from all relevant sources, (contractors, co-workers)







Additional Expectations:


Skilled in operation of a wide variety of construction and/or agricultural equipment assigned to the advanced level, including, but not limited to, computer-controlled pesticide applicator greater than or equal to 300 gallons. Operate hand and power tools, such as chain saws, string trimmers, hedge trimmers, loppers, bush axe, rakes, shovels, sod cutters, concrete saws and grinders, and other items as necessary. Must be able to independently perform pesticide, erosion control, or landscape maintenance activities. Have the ability to calibrate specialized equipment; distribute pesticides; dispose of pesticide containers; monitor spraying operations; and maintain accurate records of daily herbicide operations. Must have good communication skills and be able to lead crews in erosion control and landscape maintenance activities. Promote safety by participating in the daily Operation Risk Management program, including daily tailgate safety meetings and pre-trip inspections on equipment. The selected candidate must be able to legally operate CDL required equipment/trucks with both manual and automatic transmissions at the time of hire or within 360 days of hire date. Either possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire. Pre-employment drug testing is required for this position. As a condition of employment, a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be signed allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substances and alcohol testing. Safety toe footwear is required. NCDA&CS Pesticide Applicators' License with appropriate endorsements is required within 90 days of employment into this position.





Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development diploma and six years of experience operating equipment directly related to the area of specialization; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Requirements Either possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire.
