Transportation Engineer III – Roadway / Highway Design Lincoln, Nebraska Full-Time | Onsite We are seeking an experienced Transportation Engineer III – Roadway / Highway Design to support transportation infrastructure and roadway design projects within a collaborative engineering environment. This position will play a key role in the planning, design, analysis, and execution of roadway, highway, and multimodal transportation projects while partnering closely with internal teams, clients, and public agencies. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical transportation engineering expertise, experience preparing construction plans and studies, and the ability to lead technical project tasks while mentoring junior staff. Key Responsibilities Transportation Engineering & Design Support roadway, highway, corridor, multimodal, and transportation infrastructure projects from concept through construction Prepare engineering plans, specifications, reports, cost estimates, schedules, and technical documentation Perform roadway and transportation design using industry-standard engineering software Conduct field reviews, site observations, and data collection activities Assist with traffic studies, transportation analysis, and engineering evaluations Participate in construction-related assignments and coordination efforts Prepare exhibits, graphics, and presentation materials for public meetings and client discussions Project Coordination & Technical Leadership Lead technical assignments and coordinate project deliverables under the direction of senior leadership Monitor project schedules, budgets, and technical accuracy Perform QA/QC reviews of engineering documents and project work Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, agencies, and stakeholders Support proposal preparation, grant applications, and client presentations Assist in mentoring and guiding junior engineering staff Client & Stakeholder Interaction Participate in client meetings, public engagement activities, and agency coordination Support ongoing client relationships and business development initiatives Present technical findings and project recommendations to internal and external stakeholders Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field required Coursework or concentration in Transportation Engineering and/or Highway Design preferred 5+ years of transportation engineering experience required EIT certification required OR equivalent transportation engineering experience PE license preferred or ability to obtain within six months Experience preparing roadway or traffic construction plans and engineering studies required Experience performing QA/QC reviews and directing technical tasks required Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar engineering design software Familiarity with DOT standards, roadway design criteria, permitting processes, and construction standards Knowledge of ADA standards and transportation infrastructure regulations preferred Experience with AutoTurn and GuideSIGN preferred Preferred Skill Sets Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong technical writing and presentation abilities Ability to work independently and within cross-functional project teams Interest in mentoring junior staff and growing within an engineering organization Additional Information Primarily office-based environment with occasional field/site visits Some local and occasional overnight travel may be required Valid driver’s license preferred
