The Transmission Line Section Manager has broad technical knowledge and experience with the design and construction of high voltage Transmission Line projects up to 500kV. Leveraging that knowledge and experience, they work in close coordination with a project manager (PM) to manage and execute the engineering and design components of projects.Specific duties include:Develop a partnership with the PM; the PM is responsible for scope, schedule, budget, and client management, and the EM is responsible for technical execution of the project.Develop and implement a project execution plan for the technical aspect of projects.Assign project tasks and provide technical guidance to project team members.Participate in Client Development Planning and Execution; grow the Transmission practice through business development and strengthening client relationships.Support the technical aspects of scope, schedule, and budget, including proposal development, work breakdown structure, progress assessment, risk assessment/mitigation, change management, and schedule management.Coordinate and/or perform quality checks and reviews for all project deliverables per HDR Quality Management Systems (QMS) requirements, processes, and procedures; perform quality checks and/or reviews of projects from other teams as needed.Work independently; may direct, mentor, train, and/or supervise one or more Project Engineers, EITs, or CADD/Designers.Lead multiple projects concurrently, utilizing teams in different locations.Work with senior engineers and technical leaders to identify and develop specific technical expertise and attend training and seminars focused on further development and understanding of complex concepts related to their discipline.Assist with developing technical papers and/or presentations that showcase HDR's technical capabilities at industry conferences or other events.Participate in project reviews as needed.Preferred QualificationsBS degree in EngineeringPE license10+ years of technical transmission line experience up to 500kV; conceptual knowledge of routing, environmental permitting, right of way acquisition, PLS-CADD modeling, steel and wood structure design, foundation design, material procurement, specifications, and construction support.Distribution line design and/or steel lattice tower modeling and design experience a plus.Strong track record of growing a Transmission practice and developing client relationships.Track record of working cooperatively with diverse teams, regions, departments, technical managers and project staff.Experience using industry standard design software required.Proficient with Microsoft Office and conferencing platforms (Zoom, WebEx, Teams, etc.).Self‑starter with strong written and verbal communication skills preferred.Strong conceptual, organizational, problem‑solving, and collaboration skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team.An attitude and commitment to be an active participant of our employee‑owned culture is a must.Some travel may be required.Required QualificationsBachelor's degree or equivalent experience.A minimum of 10 years experience.Professional registration, license or certification may be required based on role.Strong communication and listening skills.Ability to handle multiple assignments.Good leadership and organizational skills.An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee‑owned culture is a must.Primary LocationUnited States – California – IrvineOther LocationsNot specified.IndustryPowerScheduleFull‑timeEmployee StatusRegularBusiness Class: Transmission/Distribution EngineeringJob Posting: Oct 21, 2025At HDR, we are committed to the principles of employment equity.We are an affirmative action and equal opportunity employer.
