Position Summary
The Training Instructor is responsible for delivering curriculum-based instruction to contract security personnel assigned to Federal Protective Service (FPS) locations. This role includes conducting a wide range of security-related training and analyzing training data to support training needs assessments and recommendations.
Training topics include, but are not limited to:
Basic and Refresher Core Officer Training
CPR/First Aid/AED
Defensive Tactics
Handcuffing
Expandable Baton
OC Spray
Firearms Instruction
National Weapons Detection Training Program (NWDT) modules
Required Certifications and Experience
Mandatory Certifications
Candidates must present valid instructor‑level certifications in the following:
Firearms Instructor Must have completed an accredited Firearms Instructor course (e.g., NRA, Police Academy, state POST Academy, FLETC, or military equivalent) resulting in instructor certification.
Minimum Experience Requirements
At least two years of demonstrated experience in law enforcement or security methodologies.
At least two years of documented instructor experience.
Must meet Protective Security Officer qualification standards.
Proficiency in developing documents using Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Instructor Certifications
Instructor credentials in the following areas are highly preferred:
First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
Expandable Baton Instructor certification from an approved program (e.g., ASP, Monadnock, Police Academy, state POST Academy, FLETC, or military equivalent).
OC Spray Instructor certification from an approved program (same approved sources as above).
Defensive Tactics Instructor certification from an approved program (same approved sources as above).
NWDTP Instructor (National Weapons Detection Training Program) Must hold current NWDTP instructor credentials.
Education
Required: High School Diploma or GED
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Homeland Security, Security Administration, Criminal Justice, or a closely related field
Additional Requirements
Must pass a medical exam and drug screening
Must be a U.S. Citizen
Must be able to read, write, and speak English clearly
Must be able to work flexible shifts, including nights and weekends
