Description of Work

Central Regional Hospital is currently recruiting for a Clinical Social Worker in the Psychosocial Treatment Department. The primary purpose of this position is to provide group therapy for adult patients primarily, as well as to children and adolescent patients, if needed. This position reports directly to the PST Psychology/SW/Creative Arts Supervisor to ensure that the treatment components are clinically sound, evidence-based, and meet hospital and departmental clinical objectives and standards. This position may also be required to supervise social work students and/or volunteers performing work or service during group treatments and will be required to be in direct observation of these students/volunteers during these activities. This position will participate in specialized activities to enhance patients well-being and treatment. This position may function as a liaison to a patient care unit, participate in treatment team planning, and complete patient enrollment in preferred groups.

Salary Grade Range: $50,633.00 - $88,607.00

A Sign-on bonus of $5,000 may be offered to the successful applicant(s) of this posting, contingent on the 2025-2026 Budget Approval.

The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

  • Knowledge of assessment and counseling/therapy principles and their practical application to complex casework, group-work, crisis intervention, and community issues
  • Knowledge of social, psychological, and developmental theory, psychopathology, substance abuse, and differential diagnosis; ethical standards and practices of professional social work; and group facilitator skills
  • Must demonstrate basic knowledge of trauma-informed care as well as psychiatric disorders
  • Ability to represent all disciplines of PST in treatment team meetings by making recommendations for treatment goals and interventions and reporting on patient progress in department programs
  • Ability to deal competently with conflict and volatile individuals and situations discussing sensitive emotional topics in a supportive, non-threatening manner
  • Ability to speak and write clearly with patients and staff

Conditional Requirements

  • Ability to successfully complete all required initial one-time trainings and hospital/clinical orientations
  • Successful annual completion of hospital training, NVCI training, discipline-specific training, and required departmental training
  • Acquire relevant in-service training hours to maintain licensure as a LCSW, per NC statute

Position Classification

This position is Exempt from certain provisions of The State Human Resources Act (GS 126)

This position is designated as mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather events.

Working Hours

  • Day, 7:30am - 5:00pm

Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus

To qualify for the Sign-on Bonus, a newly hired permanent full-time or permanent part-time employee must work 30 to 40 hours per week to be eligible. Those who are eligible and working less than 40 hours a week will receive a prorated rate.

An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:

  • The employee has held a position in the North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system, within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date)
  • The employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency
  • DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees

Veteran's and National Guard Preference

Master's Degree in Social Work
