Fairmont State University is seeking a skilled and dependable Trades Specialist I to join our Facilities team. This position plays a vital role in maintaining and improving the University's buildings, infrastructure, and campus environment by performing journey-level trade work and coordinating a variety of maintenance and repair projects. The successful candidate will organize and oversee assigned work activities, ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established trade standards. This position requires strong problem-solving skills, a commitment to customer service, and the ability to support a safe, functional, and welcoming campus for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Organizes, assigns, and coordinates the technical maintenance work and installation services rendered by skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled workers assigned to a multi-trade work team.
  • Performs journey level work in the assigned trade; troubleshoots problems and performs maintenance and repairs.
  • Inspects completed job assignments for adherence to trade standards.
  • Prepares estimates of time, labor and materials; prepares bills of materials. Ensures that assigned projects adhere to time and cost estimates.
  • Monitors work on site and notifies supervisor of problems, scheduling or deadline issues.
  • Prepares requisitions and obtains materials needed to complete assigned projects. Ensures cost effective use of materials allocated.
  • Prepares a variety of special and recurring reports reflecting daily operations and project status.
  • Operates standard equipment including power and hand tools.
  • Ensures operational readiness and safety of work areas, tools, and equipment; conducts routine inspections; performs routine repairs and maintenance on equipment and tools.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Required Education

Business, technical, or vocational school as might normally be acquired through up to 18 months of education or training beyond high school.

Required Licenses and/or Certifications

Journeyman Electrician License

Minimum Required Qualifications

Over two years and up to three years of experience; however, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience is acceptable which provides an applicant the listed knowledge, skills, and abilities and the capability to perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

Master Electrician
