This is a part-time position located at the Slidell Welcome Center in Slidell, LA.

The Louisiana Office of Tourism's vision is to market and promote the brand of Feed Your Soul, showcasing Louisiana as a travel destination, increasing revenue generated by the tourism industry, and contributing to the economic impact of tourism in all 64 parishes.

The Office of Tourism partners with tourism professionals and industry stakeholders in private and public sectors to extend and enhance their efforts to reach domestic and international consumers and travel trade.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Meets and greets the general traveling public, welcoming them to Louisiana.
  • Provides general and detailed information (including directions) on attractions, tours, restaurants, parks, museums, events, and other places of interest to visitors of Louisiana.
  • Offers and distributes maps and brochures to visitors and makes sure all brochure racks are well stocked.
  • Works with other travel counselors and supervisors to secure reliable information on current activities, festivals, attractions, lodging, restaurants, and other tourism-related businesses, and to generally increase knowledge of the state.
  • Works with other travel counselors and the supervisor to continually compile, file, and update reference materials, and utilizes the internet responsibly in order to increase the resources available to find answers to visitors' unusual questions.
  • Attends and participates in job safety training, position and center-specific training, and other courses that may be required or recommended, including but not limited to: customer service, harassment, bloodborne pathogens, and driver safety.

Other important Information:

  • Must demonstrate and utilize advanced computer skills and knowledge of a wide range of general and proprietary software, Office Suite, Outlook (word processing, spreadsheet, electronic mail, and others), and usage of a wide variety of online forms and internet portals. Must demonstrate and exemplify responsible usage of the internet.
  • Must be able to lift 30 lbs.
  • Responsible and dependable.
  • Good customer service skills.

Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type: This position will be filled as a part-time Classified WAE, limited to 1,245 working hours in a 12 month period. Starting Hourly Pay varies, depending on experience.

Location: This position is located at the Slidell Welcome Center in Slidell, LA.

Work Schedule: Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays, evenings, and be accessible/available in an emergency.
