Tooling Inventory & Crib Operations Manager

A day in this role

Picture your morning walking into our climate-controlled manufacturing facility on 3411 Woodhead Dr, Northbrook, IL 60062. You review the overnight tool returns, scan items into the system, and stage calibrated instruments for the first CNC jobs of the day. By mid-morning, you’re inspecting wear on cutting tools, arranging regrinds or replacements, and updating the inventory management software. After lunch, you’re coordinating with production and maintenance teams to issue exactly what they need, auditing stock levels, and ensuring every item is labeled, stored, and easy to find. You close the day with a tidy, safe, and compliant crib—ready for tomorrow’s builds.

What you’ll own

  • Issue and receive tools, equipment, and supplies for production and maintenance personnel.
  • Maintain precise check‑in/check‑out records and keep inventory systems up to date.
  • Inspect tools for wear, damage, and calibration needs; coordinate repair, replacement, or reconditioning.
  • Organize and label storage locations to ensure rapid access and proper tool care.
  • Monitor inventory levels, flag shortages, and initiate replenishment.
  • Assist with routine cycle counts and full audits of tools and consumables.
  • Keep the crib clean, orderly, and safe.
  • Uphold company policies, safety rules, and quality requirements.
  • Champion continuous improvement to elevate efficiency and reduce costs.

What you bring

Required qualifications

  • 1–3 years in tool crib operations, inventory control, or manufacturing support.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of hand tools, machine tools, and industrial equipment.
  • Proficient in using Solar System Tool Management System, Tools Balancers and Redo Matic Equipment.
  • Exceptional organization and attention to detail.
  • Clear, customer‑focused communication with production teams.

Preferred qualifications

  • Inspection experience in aerospace, aviation, automotive, or composites manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with advanced composites and thermosets.

Work environment

This position is primarily performed in a tool crib, stockroom, or warehouse environment with regular interaction on the production floor. May involve exposure to manufacturing noise, dust, or other manufacturing debris.

Climate‑controlled facility with state‑of‑the‑art CNC equipment. Standing for extended periods, lifting up to 50 lbs, and working around noise and composite dust are part of the job (PPE provided). Some flexibility for shift coverage may be needed. You’ll support cutting‑edge aerospace applications while driving technical improvements and helping teammates build new skills.
