A Day in This Role

Your day moves from modeling and detailing to collaborating with shop teams, supporting builds, and validating performance through testing and continuous improvement. You will ensure documentation is clear, models are accurate, and production stays efficient and reliable.

  • Support estimating by helping define cost targets for tooling and machine designs.
  • Develop conceptual designs for tube forming and material handling systems.
  • Create complete 3D models of form tools, dies, machines, and automated equipment.
  • Produce detailed component, assembly, and process drawings.
  • Generate accurate bills of materials for every design.
  • Specify and source materials, components, and subassemblies required for tooling and equipment.
  • Integrate hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and electro‑mechanical devices into robust designs.
  • Contribute to manufacturing process plans for fabrication, build, and assembly.
  • Own quality assurance by defining test methods, testing finished products, and validating fabrication, assembly, and installation.
  • Prepare thorough product and process documentation (process prints, setup sheets, fabrication drawings, operation manuals, dimensional reports, etc.).
  • Provide timely support to shop personnel and cross-functional partners.
  • Comply with applicable government regulations and industry standards.
  • Train technicians on the operation of new tooling and machinery.
  • Pursue ongoing professional development within the industry.
  • Participate in project tracking meetings, design reviews, and customer status/project meetings.

What You Bring

  • 3+ years as a tool or machine designer preferred.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks or comparable 3D CAD.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfort with Microsoft Office and related applications.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in parallel.
  • Collaborative approach and the ability to facilitate teamwork.
  • Self-starter who delivers on time and on budget with limited supervision.
