Position Summary
The Tool Room Machinist is responsible for manufacturing, repairing, and maintaining precision tooling and mechanical components using manual and CNC machine tools. This role supports product design / manufacturing engineers, production, and the maintenance department.
Key Responsibilities
· Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and CAD models
· Setup and operate manual and CNC machines including:
o 3D Printers
o Mills
o Lathes
o Surface grinders
o Electrical Discharge Machines
· Manufacture precision tools, fixtures, molds, and machine parts
· Repair and modify existing tooling and equipment components
· Measure and inspect finished parts using precision metrology equipment such as:
o Calipers
o Micrometers
o Dial indicators
o Height gauges
· Maintain tight tolerances and high-quality standards
· Troubleshoot tooling and machining issues
· Perform preventative maintenance on shop equipment
· Maintain a clean and safe work area
· Collaborate with engineers, production and maintenance personnel
Qualifications
Required
· 5+ years of experience operating manual and/or CNC machining equipment
· Strong understanding of machining practices and metal properties
· Ability to read and comprehend blueprints and GD&T symbols
· Knowledge of cutting tool geometries and grades
· Strong mathematical and measurement skills
· Self-motivated with the ability to work independently but also collaboratively
· Attention to detail and precision
Preferred
· Completion of technical school or machinist apprenticeship program
· Proficiency with CAM software (Mastercam or equivalent)
· Ability to read and understand G & M code
