PGS Worldwide is seeking a Tool Design Engineer in El Segundo, California for a 6-month contract-to-hire role supporting a leading aerospace & defense company. This onsite position supports the design and development of industrial tooling, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and support equipment for production and experimental use. The role works closely with manufacturing, operations, vendors, and engineering teams to deliver tooling solutions that meet quality, cost, schedule, and safety requirements.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor of Science in a STEM discipline
  • Experience with industry-standard design tools including NX CAD and CATIA
  • Knowledge of manufacturing, fabrication processes, and machine shop practices
  • Experience with drawing release criteria, including completeness, clarity, dimensional accuracy, materials, processes, and practicality of fabrication, assembly, and installation
  • Knowledge and application of GD&T in accordance with ASME Y14.5
  • Knowledge and application of drawing weld symbols
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills in managing time, projects, and resources
  • Strong technical attention to detail
  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance and special program access

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment
  • Experience in engineering, design, and fabrication of special tooling and support equipment
  • Ability to evaluate vendor capabilities for tooling and aerospace part production
  • Experience supporting development projects, tooling statements of work, and design estimates
  • Experience with product lifecycle management systems
  • Experience with stress analysis and finite element analysis
  • Professional Engineering license
  • Active DoD Secret clearance with a recent investigation or periodic review

What You’ll Do

  • Develop tooling concepts and support equipment for new and existing programs
  • Design tooling and equipment, including engineering drawings, inspection requirements, and verification plans
  • Work with tool designers to create and finalize drawings
  • Review designs for manufacturability, fit, form, and function
  • Manage tooling projects including cost, schedule, procurement, and fabrication
  • Interface with internal customers and design review teams to ensure requirements are met
  • Support vendors during fabrication and inspect tooling for drawing compliance
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, operations, and process engineering to support quality, delivery, and cost objectives
  • Support continuous improvement, root cause investigations, and process failure resolution
  • Design safe and efficient tooling layouts and manufacturing processes

Pay

  • $30.00 - $36.00/hour
