GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Freshman House Coordinator works directly with freshman house students and staff to ensure student success. The coordinator leads and supports teachers and students successfully allowing for a successful transition from middle school to high school (Freshman House Coordinator) and from high school to college. Coordinator will assist in measuring student needs to assure those struggling receive the help they need such as additional tutoring, counseling, or additional support services. The coordinator will work with administration, staff, teachers, students and parents to implement and support current best practices in teaching and learning as they are related to each program and school wide implementation. Performs additional job-related duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Leads and participates in freshman teams and site team to assure students are meeting academic and support services needed to be successful.
- Leads and supports data analysis sessions using Excel and/or Data Warehouse to track groups of students for early warning signs and trends.
- Communicates and works with freshman counselors, student support services team members and administration to maintain fidelity in the program.
- Leads and participates in on-going and job-embedded professional development (e.g. collaborative team meetings, workshops, trainings, site team meetings).
- Organizes parent nights, future freshman nights, recruiting, freshman activities, freshman orientation, staff training, and field trips.
- Maintains a variety of manual and electronic files and/or records (student records, budgets, and other data needed for success of program.
- Mentors and coaches campus level teachers/leaders for the purpose of building capacity to teach and improve instruction.
- Maintains community partnerships (i.e. colleges, feeder schools, and community outreach programs).
- Meets monthly with school teams to instruct and receive feedback for programmatic changes and with district level administration to collaborate with other school coordinators.
- Participates as needed in program management training and development to gain and/or refine the skills necessary to effectively manage the 9th grade program.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Arizona Secondary Teaching Certificate.
- Minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience, 9th grade experience preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in developing and guiding adult learning. Experience with providing opportunities with adult learners to collaborate, model, observe, and provide feedback to support and improve instructional practice.
- Communicates and works effectively with campus administrators, teachers, support staff, students, parents and district level staff.
- Possesses a working knowledge of audio, video, digital equipment and related software or internet-based programs.
- Demonstrates a command of data analysis skills and using Excel and/or Data warehouse to track groups of students for early warning signs and trends.
- Possesses strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of District policies and procedures preferred.
