Primary Purpose:

Assist teacher in preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under supervision of a certified teacher.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED (required)

48 college credit hours, associate's degree, or passing score on the Paraprofessional Assessment of Academic Skills (required)

Valid Texas educational aide certificate

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to work well with children

Ability to communicate effectively

Experience:

Some experience working with children

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Support

  • Provide one-on-one tutoring if such tutoring is scheduled at a time when a student would not otherwise receive instruction from a teacher.
  • Assist with classroom management, such as organizing instructional materials.
  • Provide instructional assistance in a computer laboratory.
  • Conduct parental engagement activities.
  • Provide instructional support in a library or media center.
  • Act as a translator if bilingual
  • Provide instructional support services under the direct supervision of an appropriately certified teacher.
  • Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials.
  • Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom.
  • Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
  • Assist with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Assist teacher in maintaining administrative records and preparing required reports.
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned and related to the grant award.

Student Management

  • Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
  • Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty, if applicable.
  • Keep teachers informed of special needs or problems of individual students.

Other

  • Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.

Equipment Used:

Copier, personal computer, and audiovisual equipment.

Note: This is a federally funded position through Title I. Continued employment is contingent upon availability of funds.

  • Minimum Salary $14.83 hourly
  • Salary is commensurate with experience
  • Works 187 Day Calendar
  • Please note that this role requires in-person attendance and is not eligible for remote work.
