This role is for you if…

You are a senior-level engineer who doesn’t want to babysit tickets, but does want ownership, autonomy, and meaningful technical challenges.

This role is for you if:

  • You are the person teams call when the problem is actually hard
  • You enjoy digging deep into infrastructure issues and solving root causes—not applying temporary fixes
  • You want to be trusted to make technical decisions and stand behind them
  • You are comfortable being the escalation point for Tier 1 and Tier 2 engineers
  • You like working directly with clients as a technical advisor, not a salesperson
  • You care about documentation, standards, and doing things the right way
  • You want to influence systems, architecture, and outcomes without managing people

If you’re looking for a role where your expertise is respected and your decisions matter, keep reading.

What You’ll Own

As a Tier 3 Engineer, you are the highest level of technical escalation. You will design, diagnose, and resolve complex infrastructure challenges across diverse environments while supporting internal engineers and leadership.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Taking escalations from Tier 1 and Tier 2 engineers and owning resolution end-to-end
  • Architecting, configuring, and supporting advanced environments including:
  • Physical and virtual servers
  • Core network infrastructure (switching, routing, firewalls)
  • Microsoft ecosystems (Windows Server, AD, DNS, DHCP, IIS, Exchange, Microsoft 365, Azure / Entra, Intune)
  • Identifying root causes and implementing long-term, scalable solutions
  • Supporting planning and execution of client infrastructure projects
  • Providing guidance and technical leadership without micromanagement
  • Producing clear, high-quality documentation for systems and procedures
  • Participating in an on-call rotation for advanced issues only
  • Visiting client sites when necessary (mileage reimbursed)

This Role Is Not for You If…

  • You prefer scripted work or narrowly defined tasks
  • You struggle with ambiguity or decision-making
  • You dislike client interaction or explaining technical concepts clearly
  • You expect someone else to tell you exactly what to do next
  • You want people management responsibilities (this is a hands-on engineering role)

What Success Looks Like

  • Complex issues are solved correctly and permanently
  • Tier 1 and Tier 2 engineers improve because of your escalations and guidance
  • Clients trust your recommendations and technical judgment
  • Systems are stable, secure, and well-documented
  • You proactively identify risks and opportunities for improvement
  • You operate independently while aligning with company standards and goals

You’re Likely a Strong Fit If You Have

  • 5-7 years of experience as a Systems Administrator, Server Engineer, or equivalent
  • Deep expertise in Microsoft environments (Server, M365, Azure / Entra, Intune)
  • Enterprise networking experience, including advanced switching and routing
  • Firewall configuration experience (Cisco Meraki a plus)
  • Strong scripting skills (PowerShell and/or Python)
  • VMware experience (vSphere, vCenter, View)
  • Backup, disaster recovery, and performance troubleshooting expertise
  • Hands-on experience with rack-and-stack and physical infrastructure
  • A strong habit of documentation and process improvement

Work Environment

  • In-office required
  • Full-time
