About the Position

This position is with Mississippi State Hospital and is located in Rankin County. The official MSPB classification title is Therapeutic Therapist I. This is a first-level professional position responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating recreation-based or music-based therapeutic treatment programs for individuals with disabilities, injuries, or illnesses. The incumbent assesses patient needs, assists with treatment planning, facilitates therapeutic activities, uses and maintains therapy equipment, and maintains required documentation. Work at this level allows for independent initiative and program planning; however, services must be coordinated with other treatment programs, clinical staff, and agency services. The position may also provide guidance or work direction to lower-level vocational or support staff involved in therapeutic activities.

The incumbent assesses patient needs, assists with treatment planning, facilitates therapeutic activities, maintains therapy equipment, prepares documentation, and coordinates services with other programs and treatment staff. Work requires professional judgment, initiative, and the ability to support therapeutic goals through structured activities and treatment services.
