UP Theatre is looking for two digital storytellers to promote University of Portland Theatre programming. This role will assist UP Theatre with all marketing efforts to promote mainstage productions (between 4 to 6 a year); 10 hours a week, full academic year commitment. This role includes managing the UP Theatre Tik Tok and Instagram; curating the newsletter via Emma (8-10 a year); graphic design for social media, audition announcements, and other content as needed; film and edit short videos to promote individual shows or the program; writing, editing, and distributing press releases; distributing event posters in the community, assist in assembling the playbill by collecting bios and headshots; collaborating with other student employees and University Staff and partners; and other tasks as needed.

Core Duties

  • Attend weekly marketing meetings

  • Attend the scheduled Marketing Day for each UP Theatre mainstage production

  • Attend one Technical Rehearsal for each UP Theatre mainstage production

  • Oversee UP Theatre Instagram page

  • Collaborate with UP Theatre Marketing Team to set weekly schedule of posts

  • Design, generate, and post promotional content (graphics, photography, and videography) in line with the Marketing schedule and UP Theatre Brand, M-F

  • Monitor and respond to comments and messages on a daily basis

  • Update the Profile Bio and LinkTree with updated content and ticket links

  • Work with Theatre faculty, staff, and students

  • Perform administrative duties: following, photo tagging, running analytic reports, uploading and archiving digital assets

  • Oversee UP Theatre TikTok page

  • Collaborate with UP Theatre Marketing Team to set weekly schedule of posts

  • Design, generate, and post promotional content (videography) in line with the Marketing schedule and UP Theatre Brand.

  • Monitor and respond to comments and messages on a daily basis

  • Update the Profile Bio and LinkTree with updated content and ticket links

  • Work with Theatre faculty, staff, and students

  • Perform administrative duties: following, photo tagging, running analytic reports, uploading and archiving digital assets

  • Solicit, create, and curate content (written, images, video, and audio/podcast) for:

  • UP Theatre production photo shoots (two per production)

  • URTA Showcase

  • UP Theatre Roundtables

  • Fall and Spring Semester Headshots

  • and more as assigned

  • Create written copy for the public, newsletter, and playbill

  • Proofread written copy

  • Develop and maintain relationships with current and potential UP Theatre students, alumni, and patrons through social media and newsletters

  • Other relevant duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • In-depth curiosity, knowledge, and understanding of marketing techniques
  • Experience working in Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, or other graphic design medium
  • Attendance at UP Theater events
  • Ability to communicate in written and visual forms with students, faculty, staff, and patrons
  • Strong writing and proofreading skills
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Ability to learn new software systems quickly

Preferred Qualifications

  • Marketing and Arts Administration majors encouraged to apply.
  • Marketing background and/or social media and branding experience preferred, but not required
  • Experience with video production and editing preferred, but not required
  • Experience as a photographer preferred, but not required
  • Theatrical background and/or understanding of the process of building theatrical productions
