Primary Purpose:

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the fine arts subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies aligned with the T.E.K.S. for fine arts and interpersonal skills to function successfully in society. Recruit and develop students in academic and extracurricular theatre/drama performances, UIL one-act play, and other assigned competitions annually as directed by the District Director of Fine Arts.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited university

Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level assigned.

Demonstrated competency in the fine arts academic subject area assigned.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of subjects assigned

General knowledge theatre arts TEKS, curriculum and instruction

Ability to instruct students and manage behavior

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Knowledge of UIL rules and regulations pertaining to theatre arts and One-Act Play

Knowledge of UIL rules and regulations pertaining to Theatrical Design and other assigned performances and contests in theatre arts and fine arts.

Experience:

At least one year of student teaching or approved internship experience

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
  1. Develop and present subject matter in accordance with TEA guidelines, district curriculum, and board policies, maintaining written evidence of preparation as required.
  2. Plan and implement lesson plans that utilize appropriate materials and activities tailored to the diverse learning styles, needs, and accommodations of all assigned students.
  3. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing and conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  4. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in a student's Individual Education Plan (IEP)
  5. Work with other theatre teacher(s), district fine arts director, and members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  6. Plan and supervise assignments of any teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
  7. Use technology to enhance the teaching/learning process.
  8. Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
  9. Assume responsibility for directing plays, scenes and performances, along with any extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal and district director of fine arts.
  10. Be a positive role model for students; support the school district's mission.
  11. Foster a safe, productive learning environment by managing student behavior according to the Student Code of Conduct while supporting their physical, social, and emotional development.
  12. Exercise professional judgment in protecting students and school property while actively contributing to the selection of instructional materials and equipment.
  13. Foster and maintain positive, professional relationships and communication with all stakeholders (including students, parents, colleagues, and community members), through clear, accurate information sharing and proactive conferencing. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills, including, but not limited to theatre PLCs, campus and district professional development, and attendance to professional conferences.
  14. Keep informed of and follow state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  15. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records and other documents required.
  16. Attend and participate in faculty meetings, PLCs, and serve on staff committees as required.
  17. Coordinate with district fine arts leadership and theatre colleagues to align curriculum continuity, manage program infrastructure and inventory, and facilitate seamless student transitions between campus levels.
  18. Be active in professional organizations related to theatre arts along with the theatre arts educational program.
  19. Maintain accurate knowledge of Texas Fine Arts TEKS regarding theatre arts.
  20. Assist feeder pattern and district theatre arts instructors with productions, rehearsals, recruiting and contests.
  21. Coordinate and supervise all after-school rehearsals and events, collaborating with colleagues to ensure student safety during activities and while awaiting transportation.
  22. Monitor and enforce student eligibility requirements while guiding activities to ensure all sponsored groups maintain a positive professional image for the department, school, and district.
  23. Participate in UIL One-Act Play, mainstage musicals, fall shows, UIL Theatrical Design, and spring shows. Work cooperatively with fellow director(s) to schedule yearly show calendars.
  24. Conduct practices outside the academic school day to provide adequate preparation for performances, shows, and design in compliance with UIL rules and regulations and established guidelines.
  25. Manage all department finances, including fundraisers, royalties, and fees, while ensuring accurate record-keeping and the timely submission of travel and purchase requests.
  26. Coordinate with fellow directors to establish a master calendar for productions and events, leading regular planning meetings to ensure all logistical needs are met and projects remain on schedule.
  27. Oversee assigned responsibilities during rehearsals and performances. Must be at all performances during the run of a show to assist fellow director(s) with production responsibilities.
  28. Collaborate with fellow directors to manage production budgets, ensure the timely submission of all required event documentation, and oversee the systematic strike and maintenance of facilities and equipment.
  29. Sponsor the International Thespian Society or equivalent honors program, managing all aspects of field trips, including fundraising, registration, and scheduling, and providing dedicated supervision for the duration of all travel.
  30. Work cooperatively with fellow director(s) to sponsor the high school chapter of the International Thespian Society or other theatre honors program. Oversee the coordination of field trips related to Thespians including, but not limited to travel, fundraising, registration, and scheduling. Must be in attendance for the duration of any trip, especially overnight trips.
  31. Work with counselors to monitor and help solve issues regarding student placement into appropriate theatre courses, registration, and scheduling. Must be in attendance for the duration of any trip, especially overnight trips.
  32. Work cooperatively with fellow director(s) to oversee all working, decisions, and events of the ITS Troupe Officers, from the interview process for officer selection to each event/meeting conducted thereafter. Directors may sub for other directors with cooperation among all directors.
  33. Responsible for directing and/or assisting with direction of select productions each season.
  34. Serve as staff responsible for PAC use. Work in conjunction with the PAC Manager to cover all events utilizing the PAC.
  35. Work cooperatively with fellow director(s) to maintain the upkeep of the theatre shop and campus PAC and other related theatre spaces. Handle technical/scene shop oversight as needed for productions.
  36. Perform other duties as assigned.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    Supervise any assigned teacher aide(s).

    In cooperation with the PAC Manager, assist with the oversight of student workers.

    Working Conditions:

    Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
    Maintain emotional control under stress. Treat other directors with respect and maintain a united front in front of the students, parents, and community. Ability for frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small to large objects as necessary, including but not limited to textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom and theatre equipment.
