Job Summary:

The Test Technician is responsible for performing electrical, functional, and automated testing of PCBs, cable assemblies, and electronic products within an EMS manufacturing environment. This role ensures products meet customer and industry standards by identifying defects, troubleshooting failures, and collaborating with engineering and production teams to support high-quality, on-time manufacturing.

Duties:

  • Perform functional, in-circuit, continuity, environmental, and final tests on PCB assemblies, cable assemblies, and completed electronic devices.
  • Operate test systems such as ICT, flying probe, ATE, JTAG/boundary scan, oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and custom test fixtures.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot failures at the component and board level using schematics, test reports, and diagnostic tools.
  • Execute test procedures, test scripts, and inspection documentation according to customer and internal requirements.
  • Record test results, failures, and corrective actions in manufacturing execution systems (MES) or data logs.
  • Work with engineering to support New Product Introduction (NPI) and validate test processes, fixtures, and procedures.
  • Perform firmware loads, software configuration, and product calibration as required.
  • Identify opportunities to improve test efficiency, reduce retest rates, and prevent recurring failures.
  • Ensure compliance with ESD, safety, and quality standards at all times.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot test equipment, fixtures, cables, and tools.

Education:

Associate degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience preferred.

Work Experience/Technical Knowledge:

  • 2–5 years of test or electronics technician experience in an EMS or electronics manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with ICT, ATE, or functional test systems is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of electronic components, PCB layouts, and circuit behavior.
  • Skilled in oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, signal generators, and soldering equipment.
  • Ability to interpret schematics, BOMs, test reports, and engineering drawings.
  • Familiarity with IPC standards, ESD practices, and ISO/AS quality systems.
  • Basic soldering/rework capability (SMT and through-hole) is a plus.

Professional Skills:

  • Ability to perform functional and in-depth testing, troubleshooting, calibration, and documentation.
  • Proficiency with MES/test logging systems.
  • Understanding of test system operation and fixture handling.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Effective communication with engineering, quality, and production teams.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with automated test equipment programming or boundary scan tools.
  • Familiarity with NPI process support and verification activities.
