ASRC Federal Advanced Research LLC (AFAR) is seeking an experienced and versatile Test Engineer to join our Voice Communication System (VCS) team that supports the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in Columbia, MD. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in hardware and software system-level testing, a proven track record in testing Mission Critical and/or Air Traffic Management (ATM) systems, network infrastructure, and radio-telephone communications software and hardware elements. The candidate will conduct and provide support for informal testing, customer acceptance testing, and other Test related activities. In addition, the candidate is expected to interface with customers and partners on a technical level, discuss system-level and site-specific requirements, and test plans.
VCS is the FAA's effort to replace outdated analog Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) voice switches with modern, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)‑enabled systems across Air Traffic Control (ATC) facilities nationwide.

All candidates must have the following to pass the Federal Background Investigation and obtain the FAA Public Trust security clearance.

Candidate must reside or be willing to relocate within a commutable distance to Columbia, MD.
Education & Experience Requirement
All non-US Degrees must have a US Equivalency Certificate provided by the candidate.
Required Skills
Knowledge/experience in:
Hands-on test experience; preferrably in Air Traffic Managment, Radio Control Equipment, and/or VoIP systems.
Bug-tracking systems (e.g., JIRA (preferred)) and Test Management Systems (e.g., JAMA)
Test Methodologies using Agile/Scrum software development processes and project life cycles.
Developing internal and deliverable system-level test procedures, preferable for mission critical equipment within a production environment.
Ability to:
Work independently, as well as a team, in an agile environment.
Research, troubleshoot and problem solve quickly.
Communicate effectively through verbal and written communication with high organization.
Write clear and consie test plans and procedures based on system requirements and clearly document defects.
Preferred Skills
Knowledge/experience in:
Digital and analog telecommunications including VoIP and radio systems.
Telecommunications systems and related technologies (e.g., VoIP, T1, ISDN, POTS, and TDM).
Industry standard test tools and equipment (e.g. Oscilloscope, Transmission Impairment Measurement Set (TIMS), Multimeter, Viavi T-BERD, Sage Multi-Channel Test Instrument).
Commercial performance, simulation, and analysis testing tools (e.g., VOTER, GL Comm TDM Solutions, etc.).
Network analysis tools (e.g., Wireshark (preferred), Ethereal).
Familiarity with:
Industry standards (e.g. ED-137, MIL-STD-461G, FCC 47 Part B, FAA-G-2100H, FAA NextGen, DO-278A).
Linux operating systems and basic IP network skills.
