TEMPORARY MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST 1 - PUBLIC WORKS

Summary The Maintenance Specialist 1 is under the direction of the Group Leader or his designee and is an entry-level position. The Maintenance Specialist 1 is required to perform manual labor and to operate and maintain all assigned parish equipment.

Required to inspect and maintain all assigned equipment Required to perform manual labor as directed Required to use equipment and tools such as picks, shovels, chainsaws, tractors, and weed eaters Be courteous and responsive when dealing with the public Complete and submit all paperwork required in a neat and timely manner Practice safety measures when operating parish equipment or when on parish property Work additional hours as required during emergency situations Regular consistent attendance is required Any other duties as assigned
Competencies Employee must have knowledge of general traffic rules and the ability to be trained to operate parish equipment.
Work Environment The primary duties of this position are performed in the field. The field includes high traffic and open areas of empty land which might include swampy wet conditions and exposure to wildlife and insects. This position is not limited to the field and includes an office environment to complete necessary documents pertaining to the job.
Physical Demands Medium work. Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting, lowering, pulling, pushing, and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. If someone can do medium work, we determine that he or she can also do sedentary and light work. Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, and climb in order to complete various job duties. Must be able to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods sometimes on uneven or rough terrain in various weather conditions.
Required Education Qualifications Position requires a valid Drivers License.
