Primary Purpose of Job & Essential Duties/Responsibilities

Performs dock repair, maintains harbor equipment, ensures a clean, safe working environment for harbor operations.

Reports to Harbor Maintenance Supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Performs dock repair, including replacing planks, repairing cracked cement, tightening cleats and hose bibs, repairing and/or replacing hinge plates as an on-site staff for harbor operations, patrolling harbor grounds and enforcing all relevant sections of the Sitka General Code Title 13 for

Minimum Qualifications & Other Job Requirements/Expectations

  • HS Diploma or GED; and
  • Possession of a drivers license issued by the State of Alaska
  • Some training or experience in the general maintenance trades; and
  • Specific harbor operations or maintenance experience, preferred; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Primarily works in the field outside, often in inclement weather with related hazards
  • Daily physical movement (walking, standing, sitting, bending, kneeling, stooping, climbing) throughout the workday sometimes on uneven and slippery surfaces
  • Daily use of hand tools and other equipment necessary to perform maintenance duties
  • Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling materials or objects up to 50 pounds with or without the assistance of proper equipment
