JOB INFORMATION

The ESOL Instructor provides high-quality English language instruction across various proficiency levels and in alignment with the Oregon Adult College and Career Readiness Standards/Oregon Adult English Language Proficiency Standards. This is a temporary 172-day, full-time position. Some evening and weekend teaching may be required.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Instructional Program Responsibilities

  • Teaches classes as assigned, following approved course outlines and the Oregon Adult College and Career Readiness Standards/Oregon Adult English Language Proficiency Standards

  • Actively participates in the retention, recruitment, and registration of students

  • Maintains timely communication with college program and supervisor

  • Stays current on program goals, processes, expectations, and outcomes

  • Develops workforce preparation curriculum for English language learners at multiple levels, including Integrated Education and Training (IET) support courses.

  • Participates in required program meetings, projects, and initiatives.

Instruction

  • Teaches assigned classes in academic transition following approved course outlines, including at least one IET support course per academic year

  • Provides students with syllabi, course materials, evaluations and feedback, and additional academic support as needed

  • Responds to student inquiries and provides feedback in a timely manner

  • Maintains student records of grades and attendance in accordance with college procedure

  • Uses College Learning Management System (Canvas) to support student learning

  • Delivers instruction in a variety of modalities to meet program and student needs including face-to-face, remote, hybrid, and/or online

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

Masters Degree from an accredited institution in TESOL, Linguistics or related field

  • ----OR-----

A Masters Degree from an accredited institution in Education, Adult Education, Developmental Education and at least 6 hours of graduate course credit in TESOL, Language Acquisition or Linguistics

  • AND-

At least two years experience teaching ESOL in a community college setting

Core Competencies

  • Demonstrable experience providing culturally responsive instruction

  • Bicultural/multicultural skills sufficient to select appropriate behaviors, values and attitudes within different cultures during interactions with others

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching in a variety of modalities including face-to-face, remote, hybrid, and/or online

  • Experience teaching low literacy ESOL classes

  • Speaking proficiency in Spanish

  • Experience teaching transition, bridge, or corequisite courses

  • Bilingual English/Spanish

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • This is a temporary 10-month faculty assignment of the F9 band and grade with an end date of June 11, 2027.
  • All positions at Chemeketa are required to be available for work onsite as requested by the college.
  • Requires flexible work schedule based upon program needs which includes some evening and weekend work and/or travel; in-state and out-of-state meetings, conferences, institutes, training and/or other meeting attendance as required
  • This position may require the use of your personal vehicle for transportation between campus locations
  • If requested, you must supply official transcripts within 30-days of hire
  • Employees must maintain Oregon, Washington or Idaho residency as a condition of employment.
  • Successful applicants for designated positions must successfully pass a background inquiry, which may include criminal, driving, credit and full background checks. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Even though weight lifted may be negligible, it may be rated light work if frequent walking and/or standing is required.
