The Temporary Editor will report to and work closely with the Editorial Director of the Gift & Specialty group, spanning Union Square Gift., Knock Knock, Knock Knock Kids, and Em & Friends. This role requires a creative entrepreneur with exceptional attention to detail, sharp editorial eye, and ability to independently manage complex deliverables. The Editor will manage a list of original and licensed gift titles, audit and manage front-and-backlist title information for the Gift & Specialty group, help create and manage schedules, and support the Editorial Director in various capacities across imprints.

Excellent organizational and communication skills is a must, as well as an ability to manage all aspects of titles, internally across departments as well as with authors, illustrators, licensors, and brands-in various stages of development-with meticulous communication during every stage of the editorial process. Experience with format development and data management is a plus.

Temporary Assignment:

  • This is a 6 month temporary position.
  • Expected to work 35 hours a week
  • Compensation range: $30,000-$35,000

Position Responsibilities

  • Edit and manage gift titles with varying levels of content
  • Develop outlines for gift titles, collaborate with production on formats, package, edit, and/or write manuscripts, oversee schedules, and independently manage list
  • Audit Gift & Specialty backlist titles within internal systems; update and manage title information
  • Collaborate extensively with the Gift & Specialty editorial team; help traffic projects as needed
  • Help create and manage schedules for the Knock Knock and Em & Friends list
  • Manage profit and loss statements, production estimates and format development, and maintain project budgets
  • Act as the spokesperson and coordinator internally for list across departments
  • Write title information sheets, sales copy, and catalog/marketing copy
  • Position each title for sales, marketing, and publicity; prepare seasonal sales materials
  • Perform other related duties, administrative tasks, and support functions as needed

Position Requirements

  • Excellent organizational skills with a proven track of meeting deadlines with a demanding list of concurrent projects
  • Exceptional communication skills, verbal and written
  • Experience coordinating gift products or books across a variety of creative contributors-including licensors, writers, brands, illustrators, and others-along with proven ability to communicate effectively with multiple internal stakeholders across departments
  • Proven ability to set priorities under pressure and multi-task effectively
  • Thoughtful care and awareness in interpersonal communications, both internally and externally

Position Qualifications

  • 4-year college degree or equivalent working experience
  • 2+ years working in editorial/publishing, gift product, packaging, or equivalent.

Compensation & Benefits

The compensation for this position is $30,000-$35,000 for the six month project period. Salary can vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and location - talk with your recruiter to learn more. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
