    Description:
    Functioning within the Health System s mission, vision, values, objectives, policies and
    procedures, the Registered Nurse assumes responsibility and accountability for the care
    of assigned patients on his/her assigned shift. The RN is responsible for assessment of
    data collection and in providing a clinical basis for the development of an individualized
    plan of care across the peri-anesthesia continuum. The plan of care is based on initial and
    ongoing assessment and guides the nurse to intervene to meet the patient s goals. The
    RN participates in the formulation of a multidisciplinary treatment plan and
    implementation of collaborative therapeutic interventions. S/he evaluates the patient s
    health status and determines the effectiveness of the interventions. The RN role during
    the pre-anesthesia phase focuses on assessing the patient, assisting with nerve blocks,
    development a plan of care to meet the per-anesthesia physical, psychological,
    educational, sociocultural and spiritual needs of the patient/family/significant others.
    Under the direct supervision of the Anesthesiologist, the RN role is communicating on
    the continuum of care. Interviewing and assessments are performed to identify potential
    or actual problems and are reported to anesthesia. The post anesthesia Phase I is
    performed by the RN to the patient during the immediate post anesthesia period
    transitioning them to the Phase II level of care based on ASPAN standards. On call
    response time within 30 minutes required.
