DESCRIPTIVE STATEMENT:

This is a non-exempt, temporary, part-time position, limited to 1300 hours annually, under the supervision of the Municipal Judge and/or Court Administrator. Responsible for supervising a daily crew of adults and juveniles from diverse backgrounds as they perform Community Service in the City of Pueblo.

This job description is an overview and is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all the functions and tasks required of the position.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise a crew of adults and juveniles as they perform Community Service.
  • Direct supervision of all crews at sites, providing daily guidance and instruction
  • Use appropriate, effective discipline and direct management of all adults and juveniles
  • Maintain all records and data on each participant in the program and keep them current and accurate
  • Establish a positive rapport with all participants/parents in the program
  • Maintain equipment and supplies
  • Track inventory and requesting replenishments
  • Effectively handle all emergency incidents that occur, using mature, sound judgment
  • Maintain cleanliness of equipment and facilities
  • Turn in all forms in a timely manner as instructed
  • Ensure adequate communication with staff/supervisor/participants and parents
  • Attend all staff meetings and training sessions as required
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical standards an employee must meet in order to perform the essential job duties with or without a reasonable accommodation include, but are not limited to:

  • Frequent moving about, walking, standing, bending, kneeling, reaching, or stooping
  • Lifting and carrying up to 60 pounds
  • Creating and/or input large amounts of data using repetitive motion on a frequent and prolonged basis
  • The ability to hear all communication from citizens, volunteers, and employees by telephone or in person
  • The ability to see written documents and monitor volunteers during activities

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

This position requires:

  • Operations, services, and activities of an assigned program area
  • General mechanical skills
  • Ability to appropriately address at-risk juvenile behavior
  • Appropriate supervision skills and boundary awareness
  • to the ability to direct program participants
  • Maintaining equipment and supplies
  • Lifting and carrying 60 pounds
  • Working with chemicals and caustic substances
  • Use of a pressure washer and paint sprayer
  • Hitching up and pulling a trailer
  • Working afternoons and weekends
  • Writing incident reports as needed
  • Ensuring program compliance with mandated City policies, procedures, rules and regulations
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Ability to perform all the job duties in a safe manner

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

In addition to the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above, the position requires:

  • A high school diploma or GED
  • A valid driver's license at the time of application, and a valid Colorado driver's license within 30 days of employment
  • License restrictions that may hinder your ability to drive on City business, such as an interlock, will be cause for disqualification
  • During the course of employment, a valid license must be maintained, and the employee must notify the City immediately upon changes to the status of their license

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

The required driver's license must be maintained throughout the term of employment. Failure to maintain the license may result in demotion or termination.

The employee will be exposed to extreme weather conditions, heavy lifting, and moving parts or equipment. Employees in some positions may be exposed to traffic, noise, heights. The employee may interact with the unhoused, persons and associated conditions. The employee will be supervising defendants assigned to community service by the court. Must be willing to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Rotating shift work may be required. Employee may be on call on weekends, nights, etc. Employees must pass a pre-employment drug screen

Due to Federal and State Criminal Justice System access requirements, classifications that access and maintain criminal justice information is required, as a condition of employment, to not have been convicted of and/or have pending charges of a felony or misdemeanor crime that would deny or otherwise restrict access to criminal justice information. City of Pueblo Temporary and Seasonal Employee Sick Leave Benefits

Beginning January 1, 2021, all employers in Colorado are required to provide paid sick leave to employees under the Healthy Families and Workplaces Act ("HFWA"). Said leave is accrued at one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 48 hours.

Per the Act, leave may be used for any of the following reasons:

  • The employee has a mental or physical illness, injury, or health condition; needs a medical diagnosis, care, or treatment related to such illness, injury, or condition; or needs to obtain preventive medical care.
  • The employee needs to care for a family member who has a mental or physical illness, injury, or health condition; needs a medical diagnosis, care, or treatment related to such illness, injury, or condition; or needs to obtain preventive medical care.
  • The employee or family member has been the victim of domestic abuse, sexual assault, or harassment and needs to be absent from work for purposes related to such crime; or
  • A public official has ordered the closure of the school or place of care of the employees child or of the employees place of business due to a public health emergency, necessitating the employees absence from work.

Consistent with the HWFA, part-time temporary and seasonal employees of the City shall not carry forward more than forty-eight (48) hours of unused sick leave from one year to the next.

City employment as a temporary or seasonal employee means that the most you can expect to work is 1300 hours in a calendar year. Depending on the work schedule required by the hiring department, this means more time to spend with your family and/or doing other activities.
