Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; technical certification in telecommunications or a related field is preferred.
- 2+ years of experience working with landline telephone systems or telecommunications infrastructure.
- Experience installing, testing, and troubleshooting copper telephone lines.
- Familiarity with county, government, or enterprise telecom environments is a plus.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation (if travel between sites is required).
Skills:
- Experience using tone generators, probe kits, butt sets, and telephone line testers.
- Strong knowledge of copper cabling, telephone circuits, and voice communication systems.
- Ability to tone, trace, identify, and ring telephone lines.
- Familiarity with MDF/IDF closets, punch-down blocks (66/110), and cross-connects.
- Ability to read telecom wiring diagrams and cable documentation.
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Ability to work independently and manage multiple service requests.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Basic computer skills for documenting work orders and test results.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in equipment rooms, ceilings, or confined spaces when necessary.
- Tone, trace, and identify landline telephone circuits using telecom testing equipment.
- Ring and test telephone lines to verify connectivity, continuity, and proper operation.
- Install, troubleshoot, and maintain copper-based telephone lines and associated telecom infrastructure.
- Diagnose and resolve issues related to voice communication circuits and landline connectivity.
- Perform cable identification, labeling, and documentation of telephone lines.
- Test telephone jacks, punch-down blocks, cross-connects, and distribution frames.
- Coordinate with county IT and telecommunications teams during installations, maintenance, and repairs.
- Maintain accurate records of testing results, line assignments, and service activities.
- Follow safety procedures and local telecommunications standards while working in county facilities.
- Support moves, adds, and changes (MAC) for telephone services as required.
- Verify proper functionality of PBX, analog, or digital phone systems where applicable.
- Respond to service requests and troubleshoot outages to minimize downtime.

We are looking for a Telephony Engineer with experience in landline telephone systems to tone, trace, ring, test, and troubleshoot county telephone lines. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with copper cabling, telecom testing tools, and voice circuit maintenance, along with strong troubleshooting and documentation skills.
Need someone to tone and ring telephone lines for the counties. This is landlines, not wireless.
