Quality Technician

We are looking for a Construction Quality Technician (QT) who is responsible for ensuring that construction projects meet established quality standards, building codes, and project specifications by planning, coordinating, conducting quality control inspection procedures and reporting results. QT plays a critical role in planning and maintaining quality engineering and assurance practices and procedures, making sure telecommunications installations are following project requirements and producing acceptable results. Successful QTs will work collaboratively with project and construction team members, associated trade partner contacts, and other project stakeholders to ensure that effective process controls are achieving project requirements and specifications.

Core Responsibilities

  • Plan for, conduct and report on all required Quality Control inspections of work in progress and work completed.
  • Identify process and installation non-conformities and collaborate with field management team to ensure acceptable remediation and/or rework is achieved to meet project requirements and standards.
  • Collaborate with site leadership to identify and prioritize continuous improvement opportunities. Activate and lead improvement initiatives based on management direction.

Project Quality Control

  • Conduct routine inspections of construction materials, processes, and completed work to ensure compliance with project specifications, customer standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor and oversee testing procedures of installation components and materials (fiber optics, copper cable, switches, etc.) using industry-standard tools and equipment.
  • Identify defects, non-conformance issues, and potential risks, and provide timely recommendations for corrective actions.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain detailed inspection logs, quality reports, and records of compliance with industry codes and project requirements.
  • Prepare and present reports on quality-related findings to project managers, program management, and other stakeholders.
  • Track and document non-conformance issues, remediation efforts, and verification of preventive measures.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Work closely with construction managers, site engineers, and contractors to address quality concerns and ensure timely resolutions.
  • Provide guidance to the field installation team regarding quality standards and best practices.
  • Act as a liaison between the quality control team and field personnel to promote a culture of quality and compliance.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities and lead projects to improve construction processes, reduce defects, and enhance overall project quality.
  • Lead initiatives to implement lean construction practices and quality improvement programs.

Training and Support

· Assist in on-site training of quality and field staff on application and maintenance of quality standards, inspection techniques, and proper documentation processes.

What you will need

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • An associate's degree or certification in construction management, engineering, or a related field is preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in telecom construction, quality control inspection, or a similar role required.
  • Data center construction or telecommunications installation preferred.

Knowledge

  • Familiarity with industry standards such as ISO, ASTM, BICSI, and local building codes.

Skills

  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical documents.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for resolving conflicts and working in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in using inspection tools, testing equipment, and software for reporting.

Certifications

  • Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt required (can be attained upon hire)
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt preferred
  • Certified Quality Technician preferred
  • OSHA 10 Construction Safety Certification required

Working Conditions

Work conducted in a Construction Office and Active Construction Zone environments.

  • Requires regular visits to active construction zones, with potential exposure to varying weather conditions and construction hazards.
  • May involve occasional extended work hours to meet project deadlines as needed.
