PART I: SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Technology Operations Leader provides district-wide leadership for enterprise technology systems and the technology specialists responsible for areas such as network infrastructure, cybersecurity, audiovisual, and computing devices. This position leads the planning, implementation, security, support, and optimization of the district's technology infrastructure to ensure reliable, scalable, and secure operations that support instructional, operational, and administrative needs.
The Technology Operations Leader leverages educational experience and knowledge of school operations to align technology services with district goals and priorities. The role collaborates closely with technology leadership and partners with the Technology Solutions Specialist to ensure effective technology support across the district, fostering a cohesive, service-focused approach that integrates infrastructure, systems, and end-user support.
PART II: MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
A. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Experience with both instructional and enterprise technology systems preferred.
- Experience in leading or supervising teams is preferred.
- Prior teaching experience in a K-12 setting is required, providing firsthand understanding of how technology supports instruction and daily school operations.
- Possession of a Bachelor's degree with a PEL from an accredited university or college
B. CREDENTIALS:
- Valid PEL registered in Lake County.
- Required certification as an evaluator under the Illinois Performance Evaluation system (training provided).
- Relevant certifications in technology support, IT management, or mobile device management preferred (e.g. CompTIA A+, Jamf Certifications).
- Certifications related to educational or instructional technology preferred (e.g. Apple Teacher / Learning Specialist, Google Certified Educator).
C. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong understanding of school operations and the technology needs of a K-12 learning environment.
- Knowledge of district technology systems, including networks, devices, software platforms, and technology infrastructure.
- Understanding of technology security practices and the ability to support safe, secure, and reliable technology operations.
- Knowledge of cloud-based and on-premises technology systems commonly used in K-12 education.
- Understanding of network and communication systems that support district operations, including wireless connectivity, internet services, and voice communications.
- Familiarity with device management systems and technology tools used to support student and staff devices.
- Ability to plan, implement, and maintain reliable technology systems and services across the district.
- Skill in technology planning, project implementation, and continuous improvement of technology services.
- Ability to oversee technology operations, evaluate system performance, and coordinate solutions to technology-related issues.
- Ability to supervise, support, and develop technology staff while fostering collaboration and accountability.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make informed decisions and prioritize resources effectively.
- Ability to communicate clearly with staff, students, families, administrators, vendors, and community stakeholders.

PART III: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Provide district-wide operational leadership for technology systems, services, and infrastructure that support teaching, learning, and district operations.
- Oversee the day-to-day operation and reliability of district technology systems, networks, devices, communication systems, and related technology resources.
- Serve as a district resource for technology operations, system performance, and service continuity.
- Monitor and support the availability, security, and effectiveness of district technology systems and services.
- Lead the resolution of complex technology issues and coordinate responses to system disruptions.
- Apply knowledge of school operations and instructional needs to prioritize technology work that minimizes disruption to teaching and learning.
- Supervise, evaluate, and support enterprise technology staff through work coordination, performance feedback, and professional growth opportunities.
- Partner with the Technology Solutions Specialist to support districtwide technology services and ensure a coordinated approach to infrastructure and user support.
- Develop and maintain operational procedures, standards, and documentation that support district technology goals.
- Oversee the acquisition, deployment, inventory, maintenance, and replacement of district technology resources.
- Oversee the management and support of district devices, ensuring they are secure, functional, and effectively maintained.
- Ensure appropriate data backup, recovery, and continuity practices are in place to support district operations.
- Oversee user account, access, and security systems to ensure appropriate access to district technology resources.
- Support compliance with district policies and applicable laws related to technology security, student data privacy, and information management.
- Coordinate vendor relationships, service agreements, and external technology support providers, as necessary.
- Lead or support technology projects from planning through implementation and evaluation.
- Maintain accurate records, inventories, documentation, and operational resources related to district technology systems.
- Coordinate responses to technology-related emergencies and service interruptions to minimize operational impact.
- Review operational data and performance metrics to identify opportunities for improvement and increased efficiency.
- Facilitate training, collaboration, and knowledge sharing among technology staff and district stakeholders.
- Collaborate with the Technology and Innovation administrative team on department planning, operational improvements, and long-range technology initiatives.
- Assist with budget planning and resource allocation to support reliable, effective, and sustainable technology services.
- Participate in district planning efforts and provide input on technology needs, priorities, and future initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
PART IV: STAFF SUPERVISION
- Supervise, evaluate, and lead enterprise technology staff, including but not limited to specialists supporting devices, networks, cybersecurity, and audiovisual systems
- Partner with and support the Technology Solutions Specialist in leading the technology solutions team.
- Partner with the Director of Technology and Innovation in leading the data specialist team.
