Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, the Technology Device Specialist will design, plan, configure, order, maintain, request quotes for, and organize educational and business technology devices for the Lafayette School District and its schools' end users. The Technology Device Specialist will also serve as upper-level device technical support by diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing multi-vendor hardware and software including, but not limited to, printers, monitors, document cameras, projectors, laptops, notebooks, desktops, tablets, cabling and connectors to and from the end-user devices, and more.

TITLE: Technology Device Specialist

CLASSIFICATION: Classified Range 7

REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction

Purpose: Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, the Technology Device Specialist will design, plan, configure, order, maintain, request quotes for, and organize educational and business technology devices for the Lafayette School District and its schools' end users. The Technology Device Specialist will also serve as upper-level device technical support by diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing multi-vendor hardware and software including, but not limited to, printers, monitors, document cameras, projectors, laptops, notebooks, desktops, tablets, cabling and connectors to and from the end-user devices, and more.

Essential Skills and Job Functions:

  • Ability to understand the mission and vision of the district
  • Excellent verbal, listening, and communication skills
  • Working with the head of the technology department and business offices to order and inventory devices, keeping in mind best practices in the educational realm
  • Work with individual sites within the district for their successful device implementation, including refresh, new ordering, modifications, and installations
  • Sets up equipment to a district standard for student, teacher, or employee use, ensuring proper installation of cables, operating systems, and/or software
  • Proactively seeks information and utilizes analytical and creative problem skills
  • Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to deal calmly, professionally, and positively with frustrated and upset individuals
  • Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, obtain results, provide solutions for a broad range of technical problems
  • Complete knowledge of current district products, systems, applications, and operating systems
  • Oversees daily performance of devices using monitoring and/or management programs
  • Refer major hardware or software problems or defective products to vendors or technicians for service
  • Technical expertise with the Google Apps for Education dashboard/backend and other device configuration consoles used at the district
  • Mentor of others
  • Experience in a role that requires timeliness, prioritization, dependability and confidentiality
  • Documents and logs all interactions with devices and installations via a management or inventory program
  • Determine requirements for new devices or modifications
  • Follow standard processes and procedures
  • Stay current with system information, changes, and updates
  • Additional related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Five years of experience in device management, installation, and organization.
  • Valid California Driver's License (travels to different sites within the district)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and assigned tools
  • Seeing to read a variety of materials and view a computer monitor
  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information
  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time
  • Bending at the waist, kneeling, or crouching
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling heavy objects
  • Reaching overhead, horizontally, and above the shoulder to install cables and wires
