Position Summary

The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, storage, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment used throughout Bingham Healthcare.

This position plays a critical role in infection prevention by ensuring all instruments and supplies meet the highest standards of cleanliness, sterility, and quality before reaching patient care areas.

What You'll Do

Sterile Processing & Instrument Care

  • Decontaminate, inspect, assemble, package, and sterilize surgical instruments and medical equipment
  • Operate sterilization equipment and monitor biological and chemical sterilization processes
  • Perform quality checks to ensure instruments meet safety and sterility standards
  • Rotate inventory and maintain appropriate supply levels to support patient care

Infection Prevention & Quality

  • Follow established infection prevention, sterilization, and aseptic techniques
  • Maintain accurate sterilization records and documentation
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and industry best practices
  • Support efforts to reduce healthcare-associated infections through proper instrument processing

Inventory & Team Support

  • Process, stock, and distribute sterile supplies throughout the organization
  • Deliver and retrieve sterile and contaminated instruments between Bingham Healthcare facilities
  • Assist with inventory management and supply organization
  • Work collaboratively with Surgical Services and other clinical departments to ensure timely availability of equipment

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Previous sterile processing, healthcare, or related experience preferred but not required
  • Sterile Processing certification strongly preferred
  • Valid Idaho Driver's License required
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and maintain accurate documentation
