Title: CodeTechnician Special Education Instructional Support

JOB SUMMARY

Provides services to students in their current environment. Supports, trains, and consults teachers and Individualized Education Program (IEP) teams with instructional and behavioral needs of students. Travels daily from school to school throughout the county.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works directly with students, teachers, and IEP teams to assist with implementing instructional programs, plans, and activities.
  • Assists with training of therapeutic and/or specialty area techniques to school-based staff.
  • Collects, maintains, and analyzes data of students progress and services provided.
  • Develops recommendations and creates materials to support students in their environment.
  • Models and trains staff members on the recommendations.
  • Provides follow-up and support via observation in the classrooms.
  • Monitors student behavior in accordance with accepted and appropriate practices and techniques. May employ appropriate physical therapeutic techniques as necessary.
  • Consults with professional staff regarding appropriate instructional strategies and specialty area intervention plans.
  • Attends meetings, conferences, and professional development.
  • Travels throughout the county to provide services in school-based settings during normal business hours.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Associates Degree in an applicable field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required.
  • OR Some College Level Courses: Successful completion of nine (9) college or continuing education credits of specific training related to one or several of the following areas: emotional disturbance, autism, early childhood, speech language, mental retardation, visual impairment, hearing impairment, and learning disabilities required.
  • OR An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the applicant to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Experience

  • Three (3) years experience supporting students with behavioral and academic needs required.
  • OR An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the applicant to successfully perform the duties of the position.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and engage diverse parents/guardians with varied communication styles, levels of skills, and experience to support their childs education experience.
  • Ability to employ a variety of teaching styles to respond to the needs of diverse learners.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g., VideoWeb Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint) preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment.
  • Hold or be eligible for a Drivers License (DL) Class C Non-Commercial issued by Maryland or State of Legal Residence MVADMV required.
  • Daily access to reliable transportation.

Driving Requirements

  • Driving is required to conduct bona fide Board business that is within the scope of employment in this position.
