Job Description

Job Title: Library Technician

Salary Schedule:

SUMMARY: This position is responsible for maintaining the library collection at a school site; implementing age appropriate programs for students utilizing library resources; selecting appropriate items in support of classroom instruction; performing administrative clerical functions on the statewide library system related to collection, processing, circulation, maintenance, and inventory of library materials and/or textbooks.

classification system, electronic catalog, care of materials, etc.).

  1. Inventories equipment and materials to document losses and/or maintain the availability of materials. Maintains equipment in the library (e.g. computers, copiers, printers, microfiche readers, etc.) to ensure equipment remains in operating condition.

  1. Maintains student, faculty, and item records in shared statewide database to maintain accurate and up-to-date information.

  1. Manages library in the absence of the librarian to ensure the library is run according to established policies and procedures. Monitors students in the library (e.g. Internet monitoring, etc.) to ensure they stay on task, they have permission to be there and they are treating books and materials with respect.

  1. Oversees library assistants to ensure they are trained in library procedures and policies, and they adhere to them in their daily work.

  1. Performs routine office duties (e.g. filing, sorting mail, making copies, etc.) to ensure the smooth operation of the library. Prepares reports (e.g. statistical reports, State Library Reports, student reports, overdue list, etc.) to document activities, provide written reference, and/or convey information.

  1. Repairs books and processes orders (e.g. books, periodicals, videos, DVDs, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining library collection.

  1. Sets-Up up media equipment (e.g. WEN Network, ID card machine, etc.) to ensure the availability of working equipment for assemblies, in-services, classroom, and meeting use and/or providing ID/Library Cards

EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma, or equivalent, required
  • No experience required, but experience in library or clerical work, preferred

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Criminal background check required for hire.
