Position Summary:
  • The Technical Writer is a member of the Services organization responsible for developing, delivering, and maintaining technical Field Service documentation in compliance with product support requirements and company guidelines.
  • This role requires expertise in technical hardware documentation and the ability to independently manage documentation assignments with minimal supervision.
  • This is an on-campus position requiring a minimum of three days per week in both office and laboratory environments.

Essential Responsibilities:
Plan, write, edit, and maintain Field Service documentation, including:
  • Field Service procedures.
  • Technical bulletins.
  • Documentation for medical device systems.

Complete documentation control activities required for final document release, including:
  • Tracking work in JIRA.
  • Maintain Change Order records within the documentation control system.

Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and quality documentation standards.

Collaborate with project team members to share knowledge, maintain consistency, and support best practices.

Apply advanced technical communication skills and industry best practices to resolve complex documentation challenges effectively.

Evaluate, recommend, and develop documentation processes and productivity tools.

Assist in developing and maintaining internal writing style guides.

Required Skills & Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years of technical writing experience.
  • Recent experience creating minimalist hardware documentation using DITA XML authoring tools such as Oxygen XML Editor or similar platforms.
  • Experience writing documentation for moderate-to-complex hardware products for multiple technical audiences.
  • Strong writing, editing, and grammar skills with demonstrated expertise in technical content development.
  • Ability to quickly understand and clearly and accurately communicate complex scientific and engineering concepts.
Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to:
  • Participate in project discussions.
  • Manage multiple deliverables simultaneously.
  • Work under tight deadlines.
  • Prioritize tasks effectively.

Solid understanding of mechanical/hardware concepts and complex devices

Experience with documentation and graphic design tools including:
  • Adobe Acrobat.
  • Adobe Illustrator.
  • Adobe InDesign.
  • Adobe Photoshop.

Required professional hardware-focused writing samples include:
  • Installation procedures.
  • Repair procedures.
  • Maintenance documentation.

Previous medical device industry experience preferred

Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree required.

Mandatory Requirements:
  • Hardware documentation background is required.
  • Hands-on experience with DITA XML authoring tools (such as Oxygen XML Editor or similar) required.
  • Hardware-focused technical writing samples are required.
