Technical Product Manager - Data ActivationCTO Office
Location: New York
Business Area: Engineering and CTO
Ref: 10049644
Description & Requirements
Who We Are
Bloombergs CTO Office is the future-looking technical and product arm of Bloomberg L.P. We envision, design, and prototype the next generation of infrastructure, hardware, and applications across all Bloomberg product offerings. Our projects include machine learning-powered products, cloud computing infrastructure and strategy, open source stewardship, generative AI, and more. We are passionate about what we do. At Bloomberg, we put our users first. The world is always changing, so we need Product Managers who are continuously adapting and excited to work on products that affect the global financial markets.
The Data Activation Group
The Data Activation group, part of the Data & Analytics division in the Office of the CTO, is responsible for connecting Bloombergs data systems to customer outcomes, both internal and external. This pillar brings together data, AI, APIs, and developer experience to ensure that Bloombergs vast data assets can be discovered, accessed, and activated seamlessly.
Our remit spans:
- Integrations with the Bloomberg Terminal
- First- and third-party API platforms
- External developer ecosystems
- AI/ML applications
- BQL (Bloomberg Query Language), which enables programmatic access to data
The Role
We are seeking a Technical Product Manager to own the strategy and evolution of Bloombergs API Platform and third-party developer experience. This is a high-impact individual contributor role within the Data Activation group, focused on enabling a seamless, cohesive, and comprehensive experience for external developers building on Bloomberg data.
This role is fundamentally about developer enablement. You will shape how developers:
- Discover Bloomberg APIs
- Sign up and authenticate
- Explore documentation
- Use SDKs
- Integrate Bloomberg data into their applications
This spans across traditional APIs, modern protocol-based interfaces (including MCP), and emerging AI-driven workflows. You will work closely with engineering, developer relations, technical writers, and adjacent product teams to define platform strategy, set priorities, and deliver a world-class developer experience that scales across products and use cases.
This is a unique opportunity to influence how Bloomberg opens its data and intelligence to the broader ecosystem, defining the "front door" for programmatic access and developer engagement with Bloombergs data platform.
What We Expect You To Do
- Define and Own Strategy: Define and own the product vision and strategy for Bloombergs API Platform and third-party developer experience, spanning APIs, SDKs, documentation, onboarding, and tooling.
- Drive Developer Journey: Drive a cohesive end-to-end developer journey from discovery and signup to authentication, experimentation, production usage, and long-term adoption.
- Shape External Strategy: Shape the external developer strategy in partnership with engineering and business stakeholders to extend the reach and impact of Bloombergs data platform through robust tools, documentation, and engagement programs.
- Partner on Capabilities: Partner closely with engineering and business teams to shape API platform capabilities, standards, and evolution, including REST, streaming, protocol-based interfaces, and emerging AI/agent integration patterns (e.g., MCP).
- Collaborate on Resources: Collaborate with developer relations and technical writing partners to ensure documentation, samples, SDKs, and learning resources are intuitive, consistent, and developer-centric.
- Represent the Voice of Developers: Represent the voice of external developers, deeply understanding their workflows, pain points, and success metrics across different personas (application developers, quants, data scientists, AI practitioners).
- Define Success Metrics: Define and track success metrics for the developer platform, including adoption, engagement, retention, time-to-first-value, and integration quality.
- Align with Internal Teams: Align with internal product and data teams to ensure APIs and developer tools expose Bloomberg data in ways that are usable, scalable, and commercially meaningful.
- Stay Ahead of Trends: Stay ahead of industry trends in API platforms, developer tooling, AI/ML integration, and platform monetization to inform strategic decisions.
What You Need To Have
- Bachelors degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 6 years of experience in product management or related technical leadership roles, with significant experience in platform, API, or developer-focused products.
- 5 years of experience managing product teams and leading cross-disciplinary groups.
- Proven experience launching and scaling API or data platform products serving developers, analysts, or AI/ML practitioners.
- Strong understanding of developer workflows, including API design, authentication, SDKs, documentation, versioning, and platform lifecycle management.
- Exceptional ability to translate complex data infrastructure and platform capabilities into intuitive, high-quality developer experiences.
- A track record of customer-centric product thinking and delivering outcomes that drive measurable impact.
- Strong product judgment, prioritization skills, and comfort operating with ambiguity in a strategy-heavy role.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to align technical and business stakeholders around a shared vision.
What We Would Love To See
- Masters degree in a technical or business-related field.
- Experience building or scaling third-party developer ecosystems or platforms.
- Familiarity with AI/ML platforms, agentic workflows, or data products exposed via APIs.
- Background in software engineering, data engineering, or developer-facing technical roles.
- Demonstrable knowledge of financial markets.
- Deep curiosity about how APIs, data, and AI combine to unlock new developer-driven use cases.
