Job Title: Technical ManagerJob Description

We are seeking a Technical Manager with expertise in electric and gas distribution to lead project portfolios and engineering teams within our Utilities services and consulting business. The role involves ensuring project deliverables such as scope, budget, and schedules are met, while also providing technical and non-technical guidance to project supervisors and teams. The Technical Manager will interface with customers to develop solutions for new project opportunities, supporting the growth of our Distribution Engineering Practice.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and manage teams executing projects within the Distribution Practice, ensuring technical solutions, cost efficiency, quality, and client satisfaction.
  • Manage resources in Customer & Systems Projects, including work assignments, performance management, and issue resolution with internal stakeholders and customers.
  • Provide leadership and direction to direct reports, ensuring projects meet cost, quality, and timing metrics.
  • Develop standard operating procedures for managing customer-centric projects.
  • Create solutions to expand the Distribution engineering portfolio, including Underground and Overhead systems, and implement strategies that leverage emerging technologies.
  • Partner with clients and internal partners to optimize business processes and workflows.
  • Develop and manage program plans, budgets, schedules, and documentation, including change management, risk mitigation, and reporting.
  • Resolve project or invoicing issues with customers and internal stakeholders as needed.
  • Collaborate with Business Development and Delivery Managers to pursue opportunities and develop solutions.
  • Execute supervisory responsibilities, including interviewing, hiring, training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, and resolving problems.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor"s degree in engineering, science, business, or related discipline required; advanced degrees are a plus.
  • Expert knowledge in at least one area: Underground Systems engineering, Overhead Systems engineering, or Distribution Automation.
  • Minimum of 5 years of management experience overseeing large engineering programs or engagements within the consulting or electrical utility industry.
  • Minimum of 10 years of overall engineering or management experience within the utility industry.
  • Strong financial acumen with the ability to understand and discuss contractual service agreements and develop statements-of-work (SOWs).
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to interact with client stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities managing large, dispersed, and virtual engineering and project management teams.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of tools.
  • Ability to travel 25-50% as needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Advanced degrees in relevant fields are a plus.

Work Environment

The role involves overseeing engineering teams within a dynamic utilities services and consulting environment. The work requires effective communication with diverse stakeholders, both technical and non-technical, and may involve travel between 25-50% of the time to meet project needs and develop client relationships. The position demands a proactive approach to managing complex projects and driving innovation through emerging technologies.

This is a Permanent position based out of Phoenix, AZ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $160000.00 - $180000.00/yr.
