POSITION SUMMARY:
The GOFCC Coach / Technical Assistance Specialist plays a critical role in expanding access to high-quality child care by supporting individuals through the entire journey of becoming licensed Family Child Care (FCC) providers.
This position requires a hands-on, relationship-driven coach who can guide participants from interest to licensure with urgency, accountability, and care.
The Technical Assistance Specialist works directly with participants to:
Navigate the Office of Child Care Family Child Care (FCC) licensing process
Build sustainable family child care businesses
Achieve participation in Maryland EXCELS
Successfully launch and operate high-quality programs
This role is part of the statewide Growing Opportunities for Family Child Care (GOFCC) initiative.
TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE SPECIALIST RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide end-to-end coaching from application to licensure
Monitor progress and hold participants accountable to timelines
Guide participants in building sustainable Family Child Care businesses
Facilitate interactive workshops and trainings (both in person and virtual)
Conduct community outreach and info sessions to recruit participants
Build relationships with community organizations and partners
Represent GOFCC at events, meetings, and community spaces
Serve as a liaison with the Office of Child Care
Collaborate with community partners
Maintain strong, trust-based relationships with participants
Travel to participants’ homes for coaching sessions
Accurately document work in the MCCRN data system
Track participant progress toward:
o Licensure
o Training completion
o Maryland EXCELS participation
Support newly licensed providers with quality initiatives including Maryland EXCELS
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field
OR equivalent combination of education and experience
Completion of:
o 45-hour Child Development course
o 45-hour Curriculum (Infant/Toddler, Preschool, or School-Age)
EXPERIENCE:
¨ 5 years’ experience in early childhood education program, licensed child care (center and/or family child care), school-age child care, Head Start/Early Head Start, or PreK education setting
SKILLS:
¨ Strong verbal, writing, and organizational skills.
¨ Strong database skills.
¨ Knowledge of Maryland child care delivery system.
¨ Ability to communicate effectively with child care providers, peers and other professionals.
¨ Ability to represent BCCCRC as appropriate in the community.
¨ Knowledge of software operation including Microsoft Word, Canva, PowerPoint and Outlook.
¨ Ability to work independently and travel throughout Baltimore City.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
¨ While normal business hours are 8:00/9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (depending on time of arrival). this position requires some evening and Saturday hours to facilitate professional development classes. Work hours will be adjusted to maintain a 35-hour work week.
OTHER: This position requires a personal vehicle, a valid driver’s license, and a current car insurance policy.
