Employee will be assigned to the Division of Air Quality, Permitting Section. Under close supervision of a licensed professional engineer, performs work at the entry-level, in a training capacity, on a variety of engineering services necessary to the Permitting Section.

Duties include:

  • Review and process New Source Review permit applications to ensure that facilities are operated in accordance with applicable state and federal air pollution control laws and regulations, as well as consistency with sound-engineering practices.
  • Conduct research regarding a facilitys current permits and compliance status.
  • Prepare draft permits and other associated documents which are reviewed prior to issuance for accuracy and completeness.
  • Compose reports detailing recommendations, conclusions, and findings.
  • Communicate with the public, industry, and other regulatory agencies when appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of existing and new state and federal regulations and air pollution technologies through training and independent study.
  • Prepare a variety of reports and correspondence, update computer data files on a regular basis and initiate procedures for pursuing administrative enforcement actions when appropriate.
  • Conduct field inspections which may require walking over rugged terrain in inclement weather.
  • Employee will perform other duties as required.

Expectations:

  • Must have a bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with a major in civil, electrical, mechanical, environmental or chemical engineering.
  • Must be eligible to be licensed to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Must be computer literate and proficient in the use of Google Workspace.

  • Regular attendance is an essential part of this position.

  • The recommended candidate will be subject to a search of his or her Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) prior to being hired and annually thereafter.

Minimum Qualifications

Training: Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Engineering.

OR

Substitution: Bachelors degree from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited college or university with a major in Civil, Electrical, Electrical Design, Mechanical, Chemical or Mining Engineering Technology.

Special Requirement: A valid driver's license is required.

NOTE: At the appointing agency's discretion, competitive candidates may receive probationary appointment pending official verification of the qualifying degree. The qualifying degree must be verified before the employee may be certified permanent.
