As a Team Leader at Virginia Eagle Distributing, you are the connective tissue between your Sales Representatives and the accounts they serve — out in the territory alongside your team, coaching in the moment, solving problems before they become complaints, and still closing deals yourself when the situation calls for it.
At VED, Team Leaders do not just manage numbers from a report — they know every key account in their market, understand what each rep is working on, and show up where it matters. You will lead a team of 2-7 Sales Representatives across a defined geography, responsible for everything from volume and distribution to developing the next generation of top performers. VED is one of Virginia's leading beverage distributors, and our Springfield, VA team is looking for a leader who is equally comfortable in a store manager's office and a Monday morning sales meeting.
What You'll Do Team Leadership and Development - Lead, coach, and develop a team of 2-7 Sales Representatives through daily contact, structured ride-withs, and written performance feedback
- Set clear individual goals and hold reps accountable to volume, distribution, and execution standards
- Conduct individual development plan conversations and actively develop the team's selling skills and product knowledge
- Act as a working Sales Representative for assigned routes during vacancies or when focused coverage is needed
Sales and Territory Execution - Own total territory results — volume, distribution, display, and pricing across all routes in the assigned market
- Identify and communicate market opportunities, competitive activity, and account changes to the Sales Director
- Support promotional program execution and ensure reps are hitting sell-in timelines and standards
- Maintain direct relationships with key accounts in the territory; assist reps in business reviews and strategic account conversations
People and Operations - Partner with the Sales Director on hiring, onboarding, and performance management
- Conduct supplier-facing meetings, market visits, and work-withs as required
- Ensure all team compliance with VED policies, ABC regulations, and supplier standards
- Manage administrative responsibilities including reporting, account records, and team scheduling
- 2+ years of beverage distribution sales experience, with at least 1 year in a lead, senior, or supervisory role preferred
- Demonstrated ability to coach others and hold a team accountable to results
- Valid Virginia driver's license with a clean driving record (MVR check required)
- Comfortable with Microsoft Office; experience with distributor sales platforms a plus
- Strong communicator — clear with your team, credible with accounts, direct with leadership
- Organized and disciplined: you manage your own schedule, your team's schedule, and your territory simultaneously
- High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred
- Competitive total compensation package — $73,000–$82,000/yr includes a base salary plus performance-based bonuses. New Team Leaders typically start at or near the base salary range minimum. Placement above the minimum is based on directly relevant beverage sales management experience and internal equity.
