Teaching Assistant, Mini Masters Program (Contractor)

The New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA) is accepting applications for the position of Teaching Assistant, Mini Masters Program. This contract position supports the Learning and Engagement Department by assisting with the planning and delivery of interdisciplinary, art-focused lessons and activities inspired by NOMA's permanent collection. Working alongside the Associate Educator, the Teaching Assistant helps facilitate the Mini Master's program at the museum and partner schools, supports art-making activities and special events, and creates a welcoming environment that encourages creativity, exploration, and learning for young students.

Position Summary

The Teaching Assistant, Mini Masters Program is a contract position within the Learning and Engagement Department. Under the coordination of the Associate Educator (PreK–8), the Teaching Assistant supports the planning and delivery of interdisciplinary, art-focused lessons and activities for the Mini Masters program at NOMA and partner schools. The position assists with educational programming, student engagement, art-making activities, and program logistics while fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist with interdisciplinary lessons and activities that integrate visual art with other academic subjects using NOMA's permanent collection and special exhibitions.
• Support the planning and implementation of the Mini Masters program at NOMA and partner school locations.
• Facilitate art-making lessons and recreational activities that encourage creativity and self-expression.
• Assist with the planning and execution of the Mini Masters Showcase and other program events.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming learning environment for students, teachers, and visitors.
• Encourage positive student engagement while supporting classroom management and educational objectives.
• Participate in required orientation and program-specific training.
• Submit timesheets and mileage documentation in a timely manner.
• Perform other program-related duties as assigned in support of the Learning and Engagement Department.

Minimum Qualifications

• One (1) year of teaching experience in a school or informal educational setting.
• Coursework or equivalent experience in Education, Early Childhood Development, Art Education, or a related field.
• Understanding of interdisciplinary, art-focused instructional practices.
• Experience with project-based learning and informal learning environments.
• Ability to work effectively with children, educators, museum staff, and community partners.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of instructional methods appropriate for young learners.
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with educators, students, and museum staff.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to establish priorities, exercise initiative, and complete assignments independently.
• Passion for arts education and community engagement.
• Ability to represent NOMA professionally while interacting with the public.

Compensation

• $15.00 per hour.
• Mileage reimbursement for approved off-site activities.
• Payments are issued by check and are available for bi-weekly pick-up at designated dates.

Contract Requirements

The contractor must provide:

• Completed 2026 W-9.
• Signed Independent Contractor Agreement.
• Background Check Release Form.
• Timely submission of hours worked and mileage reimbursement requests.
• Reliable transportation and proof of required vehicle insurance for off-site activities.

The contractor is responsible for all applicable federal, state, and local taxes associated with compensation received under this agreement.

Schedule

Contract Period: September 30, 2026 – April 30, 2027

The work schedule is flexible to accommodate participating school schedules and generally includes two mornings each week—one morning supporting museum tours and one morning supporting partner school visits.

Worker Classification

This position is intended to be engaged as an Independent Contractor for a limited-term educational program. The contractor is responsible for determining the manner and means of performing the contracted services while meeting the program objectives established by NOMA. The contractor is not eligible for employee benefits and is responsible for all tax obligations associated with compensation received under the agreement.

NOMA will oversee program coordination, contract compliance, and overall project expectations to ensure the successful delivery of the Mini Master's Program throughout the contract period.
