Position/Title: Teacher Assistant

Qualifications: • Must be at least 19 years of age.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Hold or be eligible to obtain a valid Illinois Paraprofessional Educator License (ELS-PARA) issued by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), which requires one of the following:
  • Completion of at least 60 semester hours of college coursework;
  • An associate degree or higher from an accredited institution; or
  • A qualifying score on the ETS ParaPro Assessment, as established by ISBE

General Responsibilities: Assists classroom teachers and other certified staff in implementing academic, behavioral, and social-emotional interventions through the district's Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). Provides supplemental instructional support to individual students and small groups to promote student achievement while fostering a safe, organized, and inclusive learning environment.

Duties:

  • Collaborates with classroom teachers and intervention staff to support implementation of Tier II and Tier III interventions through the district's Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).
  • Provides supplemental academic, behavioral, and social-emotional interventions to individual students and small groups under the direction of certified staff.
  • Implements instructional activities and intervention plans developed by classroom teachers and other certified staff.
  • Reinforces classroom instruction and targeted intervention strategies.
  • Assists with universal screening, progress monitoring, and intervention data collection as assigned.
  • Documents student participation, performance, and progress in intervention programs.
  • Assists students in using instructional technology, classroom materials, and other learning resources.
  • Supports classroom instruction, centers, independent work, and small-group learning activities.
  • Encourages positive student behavior, engagement, independence, and confidence through positive reinforcement.
  • Implements classroom behavior supports and intervention strategies under the direction of certified staff and in accordance with district procedures.
  • Supports students during classroom instruction, transitions, emergency drills, assemblies, lunch, recess, field trips, and other school activities.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding student information.
  • Communicates observations regarding student academic performance, behavior, attendance, safety, and other significant concerns to supervising staff.
  • Participates in required professional learning and district training.
  • Maintains active supervision of assigned students and follows district procedures to promote student safety at all times.
  • Complies with all district policies and procedures and applicable local, state, and federal laws governing the performance of assigned duties.
  • Reports concerns involving student safety, accidents, injuries, theft, property damage, or other significant incidents to the appropriate supervisor immediately.
  • Arrives on time and fulfills assigned responsibilities throughout the workday.
  • Performs other duties assigned by the principal or designee consistent with the position.

Terms of employment: 178 days per year (190 with paid holidays)

Evaluation: By the principal or his/her designee with input from appropriate certified staff.

Salary:

Base is $16.25 per hour. Can increase with education and experience.
