Description

In order to participate in Berklee Student Employment, a student must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.

  • Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program. Summer is the only semester in which a student can maintain employment without being enrolled. In this case, the student must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester. This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters.

  • Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).

  • Remain in “valid” Visa status as applicable.

  • A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester.

  • Federal Work Study student may apply.

  • In good disciplinary standing.

  • Must be located in the U.S.

Teaching Artist Assistant/Dance Captains will support Musical Theatre faculty provide rigorous and inclusive early level musical theatre training in dance, singing, song interpretation, and ensemble work to 12-14 year old collaborators working towards a culminating public share.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • TAA/DCs will cover all dance and choreography classes, learn set choreography, and run brush-up dance rehearsals and/or offer dance tutorials.
  • TAA/DCs will capture all final runs of choreo per class/rehearsal and post the video on our internal site and will otherwise use notation to capture choreography and maintain continuity from rehearsal to rehearsal.

TAA/DCs may also assist with:

  • Organizing and facilitating Brown Bag Conversations about contemporary issues in the industry appropriate for teen audience discussion.
  • Preparing, managing, and handing out materials.
  • Chaperoning or Coaching participants

Required Skills and Knowledge

  • Should be comfortable performing and leading dance rehearsals for all MT dance styles throughout the MT canon - including jazz, tap, ballet, modern, and hip hop.
  • Works well and enjoys teaching pre-teens and teens.

Preferred Skills and Knowledge:

  • Experience in teaching pedagogy, working with pre-teens and teens, or a strong interest to work with this specialized population in the future is preferred.
  • Sight reading, beginning music theory competency and basic piano for vocal practice a plus
  • Capacity to play a musical instrument (any) to accompany a performance is a plus.
  • Songwriting/Arranging skills a plus
