Job Description:

ASU Gammage is seeking innovative and creative part-time Teaching Artist Aides that support an afterschool elementary musical theatre program and provide professional development to teachers at Title I schools. The work location for this position is at one elementary school location in the metro Phoenix area and occasional meetings on the ASU Tempe campus.

Disney Musicals in Schools is a free after-school program offered to a limited number of Title I elementary schools. Through the 17-week program, Disney Musicals in Schools Teaching Artist Aides guide school team of teachers through the process of producing a musical at their school using the Disney Musicals in Schools training model. The goal is to provide the training necessary for teachers and schools to be able to continue a theatre program for years to come. In early March, the DMIS schools perform on the ASU Gammage stage in the Student Share Celebration. Teaching Artist Aides are employees of ASU Gammage, not of the Walt Disney Company.

Primary Duties

  • Fulfill mandatory on-boarding and annual ASU online training requirements
  • Attend 2-3 paid Teaching Artist Training and DMIS Orientation/Workshop sessions
  • As a leader, collaborator and mentor, guide a 90-minute after school rehearsal for a Disney KIDS musical at an assigned metro Phoenix school once per week for 17 weeks
  • Adequately prepare for each production meeting/rehearsal in accordance with DMIS expectations and appropriately adapt lessons to your assigned school's needs
  • Submit weekly reports to the DMIS Program Coordinator
  • Attend scheduled meetings with the DMIS Program Manager and the Program Coordinator
  • Assist with assigned school's final performances in February or March 2027
  • Participate in Student Share showcase in late March 2027

Mandatory Dates

  • Attend All Day DMIS Orientation with Title 1 School Sites August 21 and 22, 2026
  • Attend DMIS Alumni School Workshop all day September 11, 2026
  • Weekly commitment one afternoon a week (M-Th) at a partner school from September 2026 - March 2027
  • Attend DMIS Student Share at ASU Gammage from 2:30pm to 7:30pm on March 4, 2027

Knowledge and Skills Desired

  • Ability to collaborate and remain flexible and positive with other professional artists
  • Strong skills and experience in a combination of teaching, directing, choreographing, stage management, and/or music direction
  • Experience in teaching students in class or camp settings (musical theatre/music)
  • Experience in participating or working on a play or musical with students
  • Strong leadership or group management skills
  • Strong time-management skills; being punctual and reliable
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to student inclusion
  • Demonstrate respect for all students, teachers, teaching artists, and administrators participating in the program, and offer a superior level of professionalism, customer service, and positivity
  • Valid US Class D driver's license with reliable transportation to and from partner schools located in the metro Phoenix area
  • Ability to obtain, at our expense, a fingerprint clearance card
  • Proficient in public speaking.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Working Environment

  • Frequent pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 25lbs.
  • Frequent standing for long periods of time.
  • Drive on university business and possess a valid US driver license upon employment.

Wage

$30.00 per hour
