Primary Purpose:
The Teacher Support Specialist provides ongoing support for new teachers to NISD. The Teacher Support Specialist is a liaison between new teachers and content coordinators and instructional coaches to ensure new teachers are provided with ongoing support as they begin their time in Northwest ISD.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor''s degree from an accredited university in the field of Education or a related field; Master's degree preferred
- Valid Texas Teaching Certificate
- Three (3) years or more of teaching experience
- Excellent instructional technology background and experience
- Experience as a teacher mentor or campus mentor coordinator
- Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively with principals, teachers, students and community
- Ability to share proven instructional approaches with teachers and administrators and interpersonal skills to provide feedback and coaching
- Ability to conduct staff development and/or mentor teachers
- Ability to organize and self-motivate
Major Responsibilities & Duties:
In order to support all new teachers the Teacher Support Specialist will:
- Attend new teacher orientation with human resources to meet new teachers and be additional support.
- Work with content coordinators and instructional technology to develop onboarding support for teachers in the areas of curriculum content access and technology introduction.
- With the Executive Director for Teaching and Learning, oversee NISD Mentor Program, Campus Mentor Coordinators.
- Send out monthly communication to NISD Mentors with activity calendars and other support documents.
- Meet with all NISD New Teachers regularly throughout the year.
- Work in conjunction with the Teacher Support Specialist for Instructional Technology.
- Meet with any NISD New Teachers for coaching cycles based on teacher or campus need.
- Work with NISD Content Coordinators and Instructional Coaches to support teacher needs.
- Design and provide professional development during department meetings, PLCs, or with individual coaching in conjunction with district, campus, or individual needs.
- Support teachers with instructional technology tools and resources
- Work with new teachers on utilizing technology and supporting their comfort level of technology use.
- Be a liaison between new teachers and district support staff to ensure teachers are supported.
- Provide model teaching at the campus level when appropriate
- Maintain the confidentiality of schools, teachers and classrooms.
- Obtain prior approval from the Executive Director for Teaching and Learning before distributing written communications and other media.
- Demonstrate coaching skills at the campus level.
- Work cooperatively with directors and campus principals in developing and supervising the instructional programs in assigned subject area. This includes non-core teaching areas included, but not limited to Special Education, Fine Arts, Athletics, and CTE.
- Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies. All other duties assigned.
- Complete classroom observations as directed by the Executive Director for Teaching and Learning using district provided walkthrough protocols.
