Thank you for considering employment in the Lunenburg Public Schools. There is an open Special Education Teacher position at the Lunenburg Middle School.

Special Education Teacher - TLC Program (Therapeutic Learning Center) Lunenburg Middle School (Grades 6-8) 1079 Mass Ave, Lunenburg, MA 01462

Are you a compassionate educator who loves helping students navigate their world, build resilience, and succeed both academically and emotionally? Lunenburg Middle School is seeking a special someone to take the reins of our TLC (Therapeutic Learning Center) Program and run with a truly fantastic class!

OTHER Salary and benefits per Lunenburg Education Association contract. Hiring is subject to satisfactory CORI and SAFIS Background Checks per 603 CMR 51.

This vacancy opened due to personal reasons for the previous teacher, leaving behind a wonderful, tight-knit cohort of students and an incredible multi-disciplinary support system.

The TLC classroom focuses on supporting middle school students with social, emotional, and behavioral needs. Our philosophy centers on side-by-side coaching, helping students manage "big feelings," and teaching real-time coping strategies so they can thrive.

Why this classroom is an incredible opportunity:

Excellent Staffing Support: For the fall, the classroom is slated for just 7 students, fully supported by the lead teacher and 3 dedicated paraprofessionals.

A Wrap-Around Professional Team: You will not be on an island! You will have regular consultation and support from our highly skilled, district-wide BCBA, alongside an incredibly dedicated School Psychologist who has already formed deep, meaningful connections with many of the students in the program.

A Culture of De-escalation: While this program supports students with behavioral difficulties, our focus is entirely on proactive, therapeutic support. We have had no need for anything other than basic de-escalation strategies in the past few years (zero restraints!).

Strong Inclusion Focus: Our students are not isolated; they are included in general education classes as much as possible. You will be their anchor and advocate, helping them transition between settings smoothly.

General Responsibilities The successful candidate will have the knowledge, skills, and ability to:

Provide, design, and adapt instructional programs (across core academics and/or life skills) to meet the individual needs of students in a small group or push-in setting.

Establish a positive, trauma-informed, and predictable learning environment that promotes emotional regulation and academic achievement.

Work side-by-side with students to provide in-the-moment emotional support and self-regulation strategies.

Lead and collaborate effectively with your classroom paraprofessionals, while partnering closely with the Special Education staff to implement student success plans.

Partner collaboratively with general education teachers and families to maximize successful mainstream inclusion.

Qualifications Massachusetts DESE Certification in Special Education (Moderate Disabilities Grades 5-12 preferred).

Strong background or interest in social-emotional learning (SEL), behavior management, and therapeutic de-escalation strategies.

Excellent empathy, patience, and team-collaboration skills.

Thank you for considering employment with the Lunenburg Public Schools. We look forward to finding the perfect match for our TLC team!
